AMPKα Subunit Ssp2 and Glycogen Synthase Kinases Gsk3/Gsk31 are involved in regulation of sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) activity in fission yeast.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP), a highly conserved family of membrane-bound transcription factors, is an essential regulator for cellular cholesterol and lipid homeostasis in mammalian cells.

Casein kinase signaling in axon regeneration

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2016
Recent studies suggest that cell cycle pathways may contain therapeutic targets important for neurotrauma. An example of this is the finding that the vertebrate cell cycle exploits proteolysis pathways, yet these activities persist in fully differentiated cells that have exited the cell cycle such as neurons.

The use of edible insects in human food

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 10, Page 5775-5787, 15 August 2026.
Abstract The world population is expected to reach approximately 10 billion people by 2050, which will significantly increase global food demand and may lead to agricultural shortages and a higher risk of food insecurity. In this context, this review discusses the potential of insects as alternative sources of animal protein, addressing their ...

Discovery of effectors for casein kinase signaling in the African trypanosome

open access: yesScientific Reports
Extensive divergence of protein sequences from those of model eukaryotes makes recognition of well-studied signaling pathways impossible in Trypanosoma brucei. Consequently, substrates and effectors of most protein kinases are unknown. We addressed these

Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila melanogaster as Model Organisms in Biofactor Research

open access: yesBioFactors, Volume 52, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
This review presents Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila melanogaster as powerful and ethically sound invertebrate model organisms that can be used to investigate nutritional science questions relating to biofactors. Such nutritional phenotyping studies can bridge the gap between in vitro studies and in vivo research in mammals.

Effect of Nutritional Factors on Mental Health Problems in Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Narrative Synthesis of Current Evidence

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
This narrative synthesis of 21 studies evaluates nutritional interventions for psychiatric comorbidities in ASD. Vitamin D3, omega‐3 fatty acids, and probiotics show preliminary benefits for anxiety and irritability, whereas GFCF diet results remain inconclusive.

Antibiofilm, Antimicrobial, and Anti‐inflammatory Potential of Rubus chamaemorus Rhizome, Leaf, and Fruit Extracts

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 7, July 2026.
Rhizome, leaf, and fruit extracts of cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus L., Rosaceae) are systematically evaluated for biological activities relevant to wound infections. The methanolic leaf extract exhibits potent antibiofilm and anti‐inflammatory activity without cytotoxicity, whereas rhizome and fruit extracts are largely inactive.

Aspergillus nidulans CkiA is an essential casein kinase I required for delivery of amino acid transporters to the plasma membrane.

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceType I casein kinases are highly conserved among Eukaryotes. Of the two Aspergillus nidulans casein kinases I, CkiA is related to the δ/ε mammalian kinases and to Saccharomyces cerevisiae Hrr25p. CkiA is essential.
