Isoorientin Attenuated the Pyroptotic Hepatocyte Damage Induced by Benzo[a]pyrene via ROS/NF-κB/NLRP3/Caspase-1 Signaling Pathway

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2021
Isoorientin (Iso), a natural bioactive flavonoid, possesses significant anti-tumor and anti-oxidant activities. Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is a food processing injurant with carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, and genotoxicity.

The Broad Spectrum HDAC Inhibitor PCI-24781 Induces Caspase- and ROS-Dependent Apoptosis and is Synergistic with Bortezomib in Lymphoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We investigated the cytotoxicity and biology of the novel broad-spectrum hydroxamic acid-based histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi), PCI-24781. PCI-24781 was studied alone and combined with bortezomib in Hodgkin lymphoma (L428) and non-Hodgkin's ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Sublethal caspase activation promotes generation of cardiomyocytes from embryonic stem cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Generation of new cardiomyocytes is critical for cardiac repair following myocardial injury, but which kind of stimuli is most important for cardiomyocyte regeneration is still unclear.

Effects of cadmium on osteoblast cell line: Exportin 1 accumulation, p-JNK activation, DNA damage and cell apoptosis

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2021
Cadmium is an environmental metal pollutant that has been a focus of research in recent years, which is reported to cause bone disease; however, its skeletal toxicity and the mechanism involved are not yet fully known. Therefore, this study used MC3T3-E1

Block of death-receptor apoptosis protects mouse cytomegalovirus from macrophages and is a determinant of virulence in immunodeficient hosts. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The inhibition of death-receptor apoptosis is a conserved viral function. The murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) gene M36 is a sequence and functional homologue of the human cytomegalovirus gene UL36, and it encodes an inhibitor of apoptosis that binds to ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Controlled Inhibition of Apoptosis by Photoactivatable Caspase Inhibitors [PDF]

open access: yesCell Chemical Biology, 2020
Caspases control regulated cell death (apoptosis), a process that is crucial in the development of multicellular organisms as well as in various diseases. In order to spatiotemporally study apoptosis, we here develop photoactivatable caspase inhibitors.

Berberine induces caspase-independent cell death in colon tumor cells through activation of apoptosis-inducing factor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid derived from plants, is a traditional medicine for treating bacterial diarrhea and intestinal parasite infections. Although berberine has recently been shown to suppress growth of several tumor cell lines, information ...

Caspase-8 catalytic activity is required for maximal TLR-induced cytokine production. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
(A-F) Indicated BMDMs were pretreated with the pan-caspase inhibitor zVAD-fmk (A-C), QVD-oph (D) or IETD-fmk (F) for 1hr prior to 6 hr stimulation with LPS (100 ng/mL).
