Physio-Chemical and Mechanical Behaviour of(Pinussylvestris) as Binders on Foundry Core Strength [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The mechanical potential of sand core binders made withPinussylvestris has been examined. Ota silica base sand bonded with 6% of cassava starch in admixed proportion of Pinussylvestris was tested for tensile, compressive strength and permeability to ...

Open‐land‐derived agroforestry and effects of abandonment of management of the main crop on ecosystem services and woody plant diversity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Tropical forests are rapidly declining. One promising strategy to reverse the loss of tropical forest is the establishment of agroforestry on open land. We combined interviews with biodiversity surveys to learn general lessons from success and nonsuccess stories of the establishment of open‐land‐derived coffee agroforests in one of the world's ...

Past, present and future of local crop evolution

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Promoting agrobiodiversity is a promising strategy for mitigating the negative effects of climate change on global food security. We highlight the central role evolutionary processes play in harnessing the potential of local crops by integrating genomics, archaeology, ethnobotany and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).

Suitability of slightly saline irrigation for alleviating drought stress in taro and yam in Tonga: Implications for climate‐resilient Pacific cropping systems

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
There is an increasing risk of drought and salinisation of soil and groundwater globally, including in Pacific Island countries such as Tonga. Irrigating crops with slightly saline water, such as that produced by emerging desalination technologies, could help to alleviate droughts.

Mechanism of Intermittent Hypobaric Affecting the Postharvest Quality of Cassava Roots: An Integrated Analysis Based on Respiration, Energy Metabolism, and Transcriptomics

open access: yesHorticulturae
Intermittent Hypobaric Storage (IHS) effectively inhibits postharvest deterioration of cassava roots, yet its physiological regulatory mechanisms and associated quality alterations remain poorly understood.

Optimizing Cassava Starch Residue Inclusion in Broiler Diets: Balancing Growth Performance, Liver Health and Gut Microbial Dynamics. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
Moderate inclusion (20–30%) of cassava starch residue in broiler diets improved gut morphology and reduced E. coli counts with minimal adverse effects, while higher levels impaired growth and liver health. The findings highlight CSR's potential as a partial maize replacement, but caution is needed at elevated inclusion rates.

According to whom? Spousal, household, and plot differences in improved cassava variety adoption in Nigeria

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Agricultural innovations underpin most investments that aim to increase agricultural productivity globally. Improved crop varieties have historically constituted the bulwark of agricultural innovation outputs and are credited with the success of large‐scale interventions such as the Green Revolution. Much research has shown, however, that gender shapes
