Rapid Remodeling of the Human Gut Microbiome in Response to Short‐Term Animal Product Restriction and Associations with Host Molecular Phenotypes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A real‐world model of structured animal product restriction practiced for religious reasons reveals the dynamic adaptability of the human gut microbiome to dietary change and uncovers reductions in diversity and rare taxa loss. Integrated microbiome, metabolomic, and proteomic analyses uncover coordinated taxonomic and molecular shifts and identify ...

Single‐Cell Atlas of Subchondral Bone Marrow Lesions Reveals Proteostasis Dysfunction as a Druggable Mechanism for Early Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that abnormal mechanical stress downregulates the expression of HSP70 and impairs proteasome function in osteoarthritic bone cells, leading to misfolded collagen I accumulation and ER stress. When intracellular proteostasis capacity is exceeded, USP19 mediates the secretion of misfolded proteins into the extracellular space ...

Fifty years of advances in bile acid synthesis and metabolism

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2009
There are two major pathways that mammalian cells use to supply themselves with cholesterol, one involving the synthesis of sterols from acetyl-CoA and the other the metabolism of cholesterol-rich lipoprotein particles via receptor-mediated endocytosis ...

Mechanical Overloading‐Induced Nanomineral Crystal Perturbation from the Osteochondral Interface: A Potential Initiator of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Exploring Mechanotransduction and Inflammation in Human Cartilaginous Endplate Cells in Blended Collagen–Agarose Hydrogels Under Cyclic Compression

open access: yesGels
Little is known about cartilaginous endplate (CEP) mechanobiology or how it changes in a catabolic microenvironment, partly due to difficulties in conducting mechanotransduction in vitro.

Insulin-like Growth Factors (IGFs) and their binding proteins (IGFBPs) as biomarkers of catabolism [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2007
The life of an organism depends on its capacity to maintain equilibrium Disease induces acute adaptive responses specific to the stimulus and the organism achieves stability through change.

Mediators and Patterns of Muscle Loss in Chronic Systemic Inflammation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Besides its primary function in locomotion, skeletal muscle (SKM), which represents up to half of human's weight, also plays a fundamental homeostatic role.

Discovery of an Adaptive Neuroimmune Response Driving Itch and Fast Tick Removal with Implications for Preventing Pathogen Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Itch‐induced tick removal (IITR): An acquired neuroimmune mechanism, itch‐induced tick removal, develops after repeated tick exposure, mobilizing T cells and macrophages at the tick bite site to trigger a rapid scratching response that facilitates timely tick removal within a critical window that precedes the transmission of many tick‐borne pathogens ...

Neuroendocrine Balance Index: an Indicator of Metabolic Response to Surgical Stress in Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesУкраїнський журнал серцево-судинної хірургії
Aim. To analyse the dynamics of the Neuroendocrine Balance Index (NEBI = ln(Cortisol/PRL)) during the perioperative period of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) in order to evaluate its potential as an integrative ...

A Functionally Conserved Enhancer is Critical for PGC1A Expression and Thermogenesis in Brown Fat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionarily conserved enhancer controls PGC1A expression and thermogenic activation in brown adipose tissue. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify two BAT‐specific enhancers, with PGC1A‐En1 functioning as the dominant regulatory element that maintains thermogenic capacity across species.
