Neuroprotective activities of catalpol on MPP+/MPTP-induced neurotoxicity
Neurological Research, 2008Catalpol is an iridoid glycoside, distributed in the roots of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. In vitro results showed that preincubation with catalpol (0.5-0.5 mM) for 0.5 hours before and during 48 hour exposure to 0.2 mM MPP+ appeared to be significant protective effect while catalopl was considerably less effective at the doses of 0.001 to 0.01 mM. The

Oral supplementation of catalpol ameliorates diabetic encephalopathy in rats
Brain Research, 2010Diabetes mellitus can cause dysfunction of the central nervous system called "diabetic encephalopathy." Although insulin and various oral drugs are used to treat diabetes, they do not completely prevent the development of diabetic encephalopathy, and novel strategies for the prevention and treatment are urgently needed.

Effects of Catalpol from Rehmannia glutinosa Extract on Skin Flaps
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2023Background: Flaps are commonly used for repairing tissues and wounds in surgery. However, various factors can cause postoperative necrosis in these flaps. Catalpol is a bioactive component in extracts from Rehmannia glutinosa, which has pharmacologic characteristics that may improve flap survival.

The significance of the iridoid glycoside, catalpol, in Scutellaria
Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 1991Abstract The distribution of catalpol and derivatives in Scutellaria species has been investigated in the light of a recent, novel, infrageneric classification of the genus, and found to provide support for the new classification.

Antihyperglycemic Effect of Catalpol in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats
Journal of Natural Products, 2010The antihyperglycemic effect of catalpol (1) purified from the roots of Rehmannia glutinosa was investigated in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats (STZ-diabetic rats) representing insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Bolus intravenous injection of 1 showed antihyperglycemic activity in a dose-dependent manner in STZ-diabetic rats.

Effects of catalpol on bronchial asthma and its relationship with cytokines
Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2018AbstractAn animal (BALB/c mice) model of catalpol associated with bronchial asthma in vivo was established, and the effects of catalpol and its relationship with cytokines were investigated. A total of 30 adult BALB/c mice were randomly divided into a positive control group, a model group, and a catalpol group, with 10 mice in each group.

The anti-aging mechanisms of Catalpol by elevating mitophagy
GeneAutophagy is an important mechanism for maintaining cell homeostasis, and its decline in function is widely regarded as a key factor in aging. Catalpol (CAT), an active compound derived from the traditional Chinese herbRehmannia glutinosa, has shown potential to treat various age-related diseases through the regulation of autophagy.

In silico study of the inhibition of DNA polymerase by a novel catalpol derivative
Journal of Molecular Modeling, 2011In this work, a novel catalpol derivative (6,10,2',6'-tetraacetyl-O-catalpol), which was previously obtained by our group and shown experimentally to inhibit a type of Taq DNA polymerase, was studied in silico. Studies of the interaction of 6,10,2',6'-tetraacetyl-O-catalpol with the Klentaq fragment of the Taq DNA polymerase I from Thermus aquaticus ...
