Breast Cancer: Coordinated Regulation of CCL2 Secretion by Intracellular Glycosaminoglycans and Chemokine Motifs

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2014
The chemokine CCL2 (MCP-1) has been identified as a prominent tumor-promoting factor in breast cancer. The major source for CCL2 is in the tumor cells; thus, identifying the mechanisms regulating CCL2 release by these cells may enable the future design ...

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

CCL2 increases VCAM-1 expression.

open access: yes, 2013
(A) Synovial fluid was obtained from normal (n = 12) or osteoarthritis patients (n = 11) and examined with ELISA for the expression of CCL2. (B) Human synovial fibroblasts were cultured for 48 h, and media were collected to measure CCL2 (n = 6).

The Chemokine CCL2 Protects Against Methylmercury Neurotoxicity [PDF]

open access: yesToxicological Sciences, 2011
Industrial pollution due to heavy metals such as mercury is a major concern for the environment and public health. Mercury, in particular methylmercury (MeHg), primarily affects brain development and neuronal activity, resulting in neurotoxic effects.

Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Mediated Intercellular Communication: Mapping the Interactome for Skeletal Muscle Homeostasis and Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liu et al. define a systems‐level interactome of fibroadipogenic progenitor (FAP)‐mediated signaling in skeletal muscle by integrating single‐cell transcriptomics with FAP depletion‐based perturbation analysis. Functional interrogation using a conditioned media bioassay links predicted signaling to multicellular outcomes, establishing a framework to ...

CCL2 Is a Negative Regulator of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase to Sustain mTOR Complex-1 Activation, Survivin Expression, and Cell Survival in Human Prostate Cancer PC3 Cells

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2009
CCL2 is a cytokine prevalent in the prostate cancer tumor microenvironment. Recently, we reported that CCL2 induces the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway to promote prostate cancer PC3 cell survival; however, the mechanism used by CCL2 to ...

QBP1 Peptide as a Potential Anti‐Amyloidogenic Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The anti‐amyloidogenic peptide QBP1 effectively halts human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) aggregation, preventing the formation of toxic β‐structured intermediates. Through a combination of biophysical assays, molecular dynamics, and cell‐based studies, QBP1 is shown to preserve β‐cell viability and metabolic homeostasis, positioning it as a ...
