Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Sustainable Fabrication of Tailored Bone Substitutes: From High‐Throughput Scaffold Manufacturing, Scaled‐Up HMSC Expansion to Dynamic Cultivation in a Perfusion Bioreactor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The demand for off‐the‐shelf biocompatible bone substitutes has driven the development of numerous independent in vitro technologies to generate products resembling physiological tissues. Due to technical challenges and overly simplified cultivation approaches/niches, the end‐products are often uniformly shaped and inferior to native bone ...

CD133 Expression and Identification of CD133/nestin Positive Cells in Rhabdomyosarcomas and Rhabdomyosarcoma Cell Lines [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical Cellular Pathology, 2011
Background: Co-expression of CD133, cell surface glycoprotein, and nestin, an intermediate filament protein, was determined to be a marker of neural stem cells and of cancer stem cells in neurogenic tumors. Methods: We examined the expression of CD133 and nestin in ten tumor tissue samples taken from patients with rhabdomyosarcomas and in five ...

Gefitinib-loaded DSPE-PEG2000 nanomicelles with CD133 aptamers target lung cancer stem cells

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2017
Background Lung cancer stem cells (CSCs) are considered to be the seed of lung cancer, and CD133 is a marker of lung CSCs. Here, we developed gefitinib-loaded poly(ethylene glycol) 2000-distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine nanomicelles with CD133 aptamers (

CD133 Antigen as a Potential Marker of Melanoma Stem Cells: In Vitro and In Vivo Studies

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2020
Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are suspected to be responsible for the cancer recurrence and in the consequence for cancer therapy failure.

CD133+ colon cancer cells are more interactive with the tumor microenvironment than CD133− cells [PDF]

open access: yesLaboratory Investigation, 2012
Experimental data indicate that colorectal cancer cells with CD133 expression exhibit enhanced tumorigenicity over CD133-negative (CD133-) cells. We hypothesized that CD133-positive (CD133+) cells, compared with CD133-, are more tumorigenic because they are more interactive with and responsive to their stromal microenvironment.

Oct-4 expression maintained cancer stem-like properties in lung cancer-derived CD133-positive cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
CD133 (prominin-1), a 5-transmembrane glycoprotein, has recently been considered to be an important marker that represents the subset population of cancer stem-like cells.

Expressions and clinical significances of CD133 protein and CD133 mRNA in primary lesion of gastric adenocacinoma [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2010
Abstract Background To study on expressions and clinical significances of CD133 protein and CD133 mRNA in primary lesion of gastric adenocarcinoma (GC). Methods Expressions of CD133 protein by immunostaining (99 cases) and CD133 mRNA by semi-quantitative RT-PCR (31 cases ...
