The phenotype of the Cryptococcus-specific CD4+ memory T-cell response is associated with disease severity and outcome in HIV-associated cryptococcal meningitis. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Correlates of immune protection in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated cryptococcal meningitis are poorly defined.

A proposed model of the potential TCR-pMHC-II-CD4-Env38 complex.
The TCR-pMHC-II-CD4-Env38 complex formed in the immune synapse structure between MHC+Env38+ APC and CD4+ T cell during APC-initiated CD4+ T cell activation.

CD4 Phosphorylation Partially Reverses Nef Down-Regulation of CD4 [PDF]
Abstract HIV Nef down-regulates CD4 from the cell surface in the absence of CD4 phosphorylation, whereas PMA down-regulates CD4 through a phosphorylation-dependent pathway. In this study we show that the down-regulation of CD4 in human Jurkat T cells expressing Nef was nearly complete (∼95%), whereas that induced by PMA was partial (∼40%)

Long‐Term Neurologic Exam Findings in People Diagnosed and Treated During Acute HIV Infection
ABSTRACT Objective Evaluate clinical and laboratory correlates of abnormal neurologic exam findings after acute HIV infection (AHI). Methods Participants from the RV254/SEARCH 010 cohort in Bangkok underwent standardized neurologic examinations at Weeks 0 (AHI), 12, 96, and 288 following antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Mortality and its predictors among antiretroviral therapy naïve HIV-infected individuals with CD4 cell count ≥350 cells/mm(3) compared to the general population: data from a population-based prospective HIV cohort in Uganda. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Evidence exists that even at high CD4 counts, mortality among HIV-infected antiretroviral therapy (ART) naïve individuals is higher than that in the general population.

This study investigates the M13 bacteriophage as a biomimetic nanovector capable of crossing in vitro models of the blood–brain barrier. By exploiting peculiar transcellular pathways, M13 avoids lysosomal degradation and preserves its structural integrity and functionality.

Surface‐host dialogue at the implant interface governs biological fate and osseointegration. Surface physicochemical properties of titanium (Ti) dental implants, including microgrooves, nanopatterns, nanotopography, roughness, and wettability, modulate the initial adsorption of proteins and the formation of a dynamic biointerface.
