Specialized subpopulations of CD4+ T cells survey major histocompatibility complex class II-peptide complexes to control phagosomal infections, help B cells, regulate tissue homeostasis and repair or perform immune regulation. Memory CD4+ T cells are positioned throughout the body and not only protect the tissues from reinfection and cancer, but also ...

Cancer immunology and immunotherapy are driving forces of research and development in oncology, mostly focusing on CD8+ T cells and the tumor microenvironment. Recent progress highlights the importance of CD4+ T cells, corresponding to the long-known fact that CD4+ T cells are central players and coordinators of innate and antigen-specific immune ...

CD4 T-cell memory is in some ways more enigmatic than CD8 T-cell memory. This is mostly due to the fact that CD4 T cells tend to expand far less in response to antigenic stimuli, thereby thwarting attempts at their detection during the course of an immune response.

The immune system has evolved to fend off challenges from a wide array of pathogens while maintaining tolerance to self-antigens and benign environmental antigens. CD4 helper T cells are critical in regulating these processes with different subsets of CD4 T cells responsible for regulating different facets of the immune system.

Idiopathic CD4+ T-cell lymphocytopenia
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2009Idiopathic CD4+ T lymphocytopenia (ICL) is an unusual immune defect in which there is an unexplained deficit of CD4+ T cells, leading to serious opportunistic infections. In view of the rarity of this clinical entity, we report two cases of ICL who presented with low CD4+ count or percentage and various opportunistic infections like candida ...

The induction of adaptive immune responses critically depends on helper signals provided by CD4(+) T cells. These signals not only license antigen presenting cells (APC) to activate naïve CD8(+) T cells leading to the formation of vast numbers of cytotoxic T lymphocytes but also support the differentiation of B cells into immunoglobulin-secreting ...
