The effects of colloidal nanotopography on initial fibroblast adhesion and morphology [PDF]
Colloidal lithography offers a simple, inexpensive method of producing irregular nanotopographies, a pattern not easily attainable utilizing conventional serial writing processes.

PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Community-acquired pneumonia in children: cell-free plasma sequencing for diagnosis and management. [PDF]
Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common cause of pediatric hospital admission. Empiric antibiotic therapy for hospitalized children with serious CAP now targets the most likely pathogen(s), including those that may demonstrate significant ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Background: The influenza B virus has two lineages; Yamagata and Victoria. The two lineages are antigenically distinct and it is difficult to expect cross-protection between the lineages. Actually, the mismatch between circulating influenza B viruses and

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

Three-dimensional cell culture systems as an in vitro platform for cancer and stem cell modeling
Three-dimensional (3D) culture systems are becoming increasingly popular due to their ability to mimic tissue-like structures more effectively than the monolayer cultures.

Generation of virus-specific cytotoxic T cells in vitro II. Induction requirements with functionally inactivated virus preparations [PDF]
Using noninfectious Sendai virus preparations after selective enzymatic digestion of either of the two viral envelope glycoproteins, it was possible to study the effect of different virion-cell membrane interactions on virus-specific cytotoxic T ...

Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.
