Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Alteration of Cell-Surface Proteins by Viral Transformation and by Proteolysis [PDF]
Putative cell-surface proteins of tissue-culture cells were identified by lactoperoxidase-catalyzed iodination, a technique that attaches label only to proteins outside the cell membrane. Evidence is presented that these proteins are cell derived, not contaminating serum proteins.
