Glucocorticoids Enhance Viral Transformation of Mammalian Cells

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1983
The effect of glucocorticoids on the replication of murine sarcoma virus (MSV) in mammalian cells were examined. Glucocorticoids, hydrocortisone (1 to 10 micrograms/ml) and dexamethasone (5 micrograms/ml), enhance transformation induced by the Kirsten strain of MSV (Ki-MSV) in normal rat kidney and human cells 10- to 30-fold.

Genome dynamics of the human embryonic kidney 293 lineage in response to cell biology manipulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The HEK293 human cell lineage is widely used in cell biology and biotechnology. Here we use whole-genome resequencing of six 293 cell lines to study the dynamics of this aneuploid genome in response to the manipulations used to generate common 293 cell ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Point mutations of the P53 gene, human hepatocellular carcinoma and aflatoxins [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The tumor suppressor p53 exerts important protective functions towards DNA-damaging agents. Its inactivation by allelic deletions or point mutations within the P53 gene as well as complex formation of wildtype p53 with cellular or viral proteins is a ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Studies of the transcription of viral genome in adenovirus 5 transformed cells [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1978
Transcription of the human adenovirus 5 genome in transformed rat embryo cells (DFK3) was investigated using two different approaches. Preferential digestion of transcribed viral sequences by DNase I was analysed using kinetics of renaturation of 32P-labeled Ad5 HpaI restriction fragments in the presence of material which was stable after nuclease ...

Human Cytomegalovirus glycoprotein UL16 causes intracellular sequestration of NKG2D ligands, protecting against NK cell cytotoxicity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The activating receptor, NKG2D, is expressed on a variety of immune effector cells and recognizes divergent families of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-related ligands, including the MIC and ULBP proteins.
