An experimental study of constant-sum centipede games [PDF]
In this paper, we report the results of a series of experiments on a version of the centipede game in which the total payoff to the two players is constant. Standard backward-induction arguments lead to a unique Nash equilibrium outcome prediction, which is the same as the prediction made by theories of "fair" or "focal" outcomes. We find that subjects

Cognitive Hierarchies and the Centipede Game [PDF]
In this work, I extend the normal form cognitive hierarchy model (Camerer et al. (2004)) to a class ofnite two-person extensive form games. I study two versions of such a model: therst is as faithful as possible to the normal form assumptions, while the second modies them slightly. In both cases I consider the possibility of bayesian updating.

An Automated Method for Building Cognitive Models for Turn-Based Games from a Strategy Logic
Whereas game theorists and logicians use formal methods to investigate ideal strategic behavior, many cognitive scientists use computational cognitive models of the human mind to predict and simulate human behavior.

BACKWARD INDUCTION: MERITS AND FLAWS
Backward induction (BI) was one of the earliest methods developed for solving finite sequential games with perfect information. It proved to be especially useful in the context of Tom Schelling’s ideas of credible versus incredible threats.

Commitment-enhancing tools in Centipede games: Evidencing European–Japanese differences in trust and cooperation [PDF]
Theories of trust distinguish general trust in situations of social uncertainty from assurance-based trust in committed, long-term relationships. This study investigates European-Japanese differences using the Centipede game, in which two players choose ...

Notion of strategy in game theory is static and presumably constructed before the game play. The static, pre-determined notion of strategies falls short analyzing perfect information games.

Altruism and Ambiguity in the Centipede game
Beyond the fact that players do not take at the first node, the experimental literature on the centipede game has highlighted a number of puzzles that neither the standard rational approach or existing behavioural theories can perfectly explain. In this paper, I propose a model of heterogeneous levels of altruism and ambiguity to shed light on these ...

This study examines how the option to opt out facilitates learning in the Game of 21. It compares the performance of subjects in the Game of 21 and a Hybrid Centipede-21 Game where players can opt out of the game at any time and receive a decreasing ...

ABSTRACT This article examines the historical displacement of Indigenous peoples in Venezuela, focusing on the links between indigenist policies and the exploitation of natural resources, particularly oil, throughout the 20th century. Using a combined historical and ethnographic approach, it demonstrates how the formation of the Venezuelan nation‐state
