EDTA Chelation Therapy for the Treatment of Neurotoxicity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2019
Neurotoxicity can be caused by numerous direct agents, of which toxic metals, organophosphorus pesticides, air pollution, radiation and electromagnetic fields, neurotoxins, chemotherapeutic and anesthetic drugs, and pathogens are the most important ...

Self‐Cascade Catalytic Reaction–Assisted Apoptosis/Calcicoptosis/Ferroptosis Induction with Microsphere‐Aggregated Hydrogels in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hyaluronic acid‐dopamine‐based intra‐crosslinked microsphere including cisplatin (HPC MS) is fabricated by spray‐drying and calcium/iron ions are introduced for interparticle crosslinking. Designed microsphere‐aggregated hydrogel (MAH) system including cisplatin/CaO2/FeSO4 can provide apoptosis/calcicoptosis/ferroptosis‐mediated chemo/cascade ...

Lead toxicosis of captive vultures: case description and responses to chelation therapy

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2013
Background Lead, a serious threat for raptors, can hamper the success of their conservation. This study reports on experience with accidental lead intoxication and responses to chelation therapy in captive Cinereous (Aegypius monachus) and Egyptian ...

Inflammation mobilizes copper metabolism to promote colon tumorigenesis via an IL-17-STEAP4-XIAP axis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Copper levels are known to be elevated in inflamed and malignant tissues. But the mechanism underlying this selective enrichment has been elusive. In this study, we report a axis by which inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-17, drive cellular copper ...

Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.

From Zn to Mn: the study of novel manganese-binding groups in the search for new drugs against tuberculosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In most eubacteria, apicomplexans, and most plants, including the causal agents for diseases such as malaria, leprosy, and tuberculosis, the methylerythritol phosphate pathway is the route for the biosynthesis of the C(5) precursors to the essential ...

Chelation therapy to prevent diabetes-associated cardiovascular events

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Obesity, 2018
Purpose of review For over 60 years, chelation therapy with disodium ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA, edetate) had been used for the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD) despite lack of scientific evidence for efficacy and safety.

Synthetic Strategy for mRNA Encapsulation and Gene Delivery with Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes the ZIF‐8 for the encapsulation and intracellular delivery of nucleic acids, specifically mRNA, for applications in gene delivery. Integrating PEI addresses the issue of mRNA leakage from ZIF‐8, resulting in the delivery and expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in vitro and firefly luciferase in vivo.

Erythrocytapheresis as a strategy to manage anemia and iron overload in nondeletional hemoglobin H disease

open access: yeseJHaem
Hemoglobin H (HbH) disease is associated with anemia, ineffective erythropoiesis, and iron overload. We report a case of a patient with HbH/Hb Constant Spring disease, who was maintained on chronic transfusions as an adult due to symptomatic anemia. Over
