Metabolism of Urea by Chlorella vulgaris [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1969
Urea metabolism was studied with nitrogen-starved cells of Chlorella vulgaris Beijerinck var. viridis (Chodat), a green alga which apparently lacks urease. Incorporation of radioactivity from urea-(14)C into the alcohol-soluble fraction was virtually eliminated in cell suspensions flushed with 10% CO(2) in air.

Effect of salinity concentrations on lipid content of Chlorella vulgaris in frozen seafood effluent

open access: yesEngineering and Applied Science Research, 2021
Microalgae have gained increased attention as an alternative source of bioenergy and eco-friendly. Wastewater is useful for microalgae cultivation because the nutrients in wastewater are consumed by microalgae.

SiC/Si ceramic hollow fibres: A new approach to Chlorella vulgaris biomass harvesting

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Efficient harvesting of microalgae is a critical challenge for the viability of biorefineries, requiring technologies that combine high selectivity, low cost, and scalability. The current work evaluated the performance of an asymmetric hollow fibre ceramic membrane (HF‐SiC70Si30), fabricated by phase inversion and sintered at 1250°C, in the ...

The relationship between cellular protein content and selenium accumulation in freshwater microalgae

open access: yesIntegrated Environmental Assessment and Management, EarlyView.
Abstract Variability in the bioconcentration of selenium (Se) by primary producers at the base of the food web results in uncertainty in predictions of bioaccumulation and ecological risk to higher trophic level organisms. Water chemistry, speciation of Se, and periphyton community composition have all been suggested as factors that contribute to ...
