Cellular physiology of cholesterol efflux in endothelial cells
Endothelial cells are key regulators of physiological functions as well as important determinants of atherosclerosis. Many endothelial cell activities are influenced by the reverse cholesterol transport lipoprotein HDL, and histologically, endothelial ...

Insights into cholesterol efflux in vascular endothelial cells
Vascular endothelial dysfunction is considered an initial step of atherogenesis, and the complicated cellular events of atherosclerosis begin with focal inflammation leading to foam cell formation and accumulation of cholesterol in the subendothelial ...

Antibiotic Remodeling of the Gut Microbiota Impairs Host Resistance to Secondary Infection
Gut microbial dynamics induced by four antibiotics, revealed distinct taxonomic and functional shifts. Vancomycin‐perturbed bacteriomes were proven to promote pathogen resistance to antibiotic treatment. Metronidazole‐treated mice showed pronounced Salmonella translocation to hepatic tissue, and altered Enterococcus avium populations modulated host ...

Characterization and response to exercise training of HDL-specific phospholipid efflux
The HDL-specific phospholipid efflux (HDL-SPE) assay is a novel cell-free measure of HDL function that is inversely associated with coronary artery disease. However, the effect of exercise training on HDL-SPE is unknown.

This schematic illustrates how probiotics‐derived postbiotics (PLBK®1–5) combat high‐fat diet‐induced obesity. Postbiotics remodel gut microbiota, boosting beneficial metabolites. These metabolites activate adipocyte thermogenesis (Ucp1/AMPK pathway), resulting in reduced body weight, improved insulin sensitivity, and alleviated hepatic steatosis in ...

Bacteroides fragilis is associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D) arterial calcification and can be activated by macrophage‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs). BF takes up EVs via receptor‐mediated endocytosis, and activation is induced by EV‐derived Mef2d, thereby inhibiting ArsR family transcriptional regulator transcription.

Cholesterol efflux from sperm: approaches and applications
Following ejaculation, sperm appear morphologically mature, but functionally they are inactive. To attain functional capability or capacitation in vivo, sperm must reside in the female reproductive tract for a certain period of time before fertilization.
