The study shows that noncardiac surgical inflammation rapidly disrupts HDL function and cholesterol efflux in mice and human patients. Impaired reverse cholesterol transport after surgery drives rapid lipid accumulation, NETosis, and apoptosis within atherosclerotic plaques.

Background The contribution of high‐density lipoprotein to cardiovascular benefit is closely linked to its role in the cellular cholesterol efflux process; however, various clinical and biochemical variables are known to modulate the overall cholesterol ...

Independent Effects of Kidney Function and Cholesterol Efflux on Cardiovascular Mortality
Background: Impaired renal function is associated with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. In the general population, HDL-cholesterol is associated with cardiovascular events, which is not true in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Insight Into ABCG1-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux [PDF]
Macrophages in the arterial intima take up modified LDL and become cholesterol-ester laden foam cells, which are the primary cell type in newly formed fatty streak lesions, and which play an important role throughout lesion progression and plaque vulnerability.

High density lipoproteins and reverse cholesterol transport [PDF]
The e>:periments described in this thesis were performed in order to clarify the mechanism of efflux of cellular cholesterol, a key step in reverse cholesterol transport.

Determinants of HDL Cholesterol Efflux Capacity after Virgin Olive Oil Ingestion: Interrelationships with Fluidity of HDL Monolayer [PDF]
Scope: Cholesterol efflux capacity of HDL (CEC) is inversely associated with cardiovascular risk. HDL composition, fluidity, oxidation, and size are related with CEC.

Genetic and pharmacological inhibition of SLC11A1 functioning as an H+/Fe2+ antiporter–mediated lysosomal iron accumulation in microglia promotes lysosomal lumen acidification, increases CTSD expression, enhances lysosomal myelin debris uptake and degradation, and promotes repair following white matter stroke. ABSTRACT White matter stroke (WMS) results

Background: Studies have shown a negative association between macrophage cholesterol efflux and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, the current methods for measuring cholesterol efflux require a radioactive tracer and involve a ...

The transcriptome of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a lipid-rich dormancy model through RNAseq analysis [PDF]
Tuberculosis (TB) is currently the number one killer among infectious diseases worldwide. Lipids are abundant molecules during the infectious cycle of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and studies better mimicking its actual metabolic state during ...
