Assessment of Anti-Alzheimer Pursuit of Jambolan Fruit Extract and/or Choline against AlCl3 Toxicity in Rats

open access: yesToxics, 2023
Jambolan fruit extract and choline were investigated for Aluminum tri chloride (AlCl3)-induced Alzheimer’s disease in rats. Thirty-six male “Sprague Dawley” rats weighing (150 ± 10 g) were allocated into six groups; the first group was fed a baseline ...

Lactoferrin treatment activates acetylcholinesterase, decreasing acetylcholine levels in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell culture supernatants, inhibiting cell survival

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Representation of the suggested mode of action of lactoferrin (Lf) in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) A549 cells. Lf induces activation of caspase‐3 by activating p53 and AChE leading to decreased ACh concentrations. In turn, ACh signaling leads to activation of VEGF and AKT and blocking of caspase‐3.

Effects of Monovalent and Divalent Cations on Ca2+ Fluxes Across Chromaffin Secretory Membrane Vesicles [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
: Bovine chromaffin secretory vesicle ghosts loaded with Na+ were found to take up Ca2+ when incubated in K+ media or in sucrose media containing micromolar concentrations of free Ca2+. Li+- or choline+loaded ghosts did not take up Ca2+.

Dietary Choline Deprivation Exacerbates Kidney Injury in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetes in Adult Rats

open access: yesDiabetology
Background: Choline (Ch) deprivation causes kidney injury and dysfunction, and diabetic nephropathy is also known to be a complication of diabetes; thus, this interplay could potentially aggravate diabetic kidney disease.

LC–MS/MS Analysis of Choline Compounds in Japanese-Cultivated Vegetables and Fruits

open access: yesFoods, 2020
Choline is an essential nutrient and choline esters are potential functional food ingredients. We aimed to analyze the choline compound content in 19 cultivated fruits and vegetables and identify those with high acetylcholine content.

Neuroprotective Actions of Dietary Choline

open access: yesNutrients, 2017
Choline is an essential nutrient for humans. It is a precursor of membrane phospholipids (e.g., phosphatidylcholine (PC)), the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and via betaine, the methyl group donor S-adenosylmethionine.

Imaging of Lipid Droplets in Living Cells and Mice with Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease via a Galactose‐Modified Supramolecular Near‐Infrared Fluorescent Glycoprobe

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A galactose‐modified supramolecular near‐infrared (NIR) glycoprobe, TCF‐FBN@Gal‐BSA, enables targeted delivery to the liver through the asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) and facilitates liver‐targeting fluorescence visualization of lipid droplets (LDs) in metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) mice.

Gut Microbial Metabolism and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The gut microbiome, the multispecies community of microbes that exists in the gastrointestinal tract, encodes several orders of magnitude more functional genes than the human genome. It also plays a pivotal role in human health, in part due to metabolism

Performance, Egg Quality, and Yolk Antioxidant Capacity of the Laying Quail in Response to Dietary Choline Levels

open access: yesAnimals, 2022
The current study determined the ideal dose of choline in the diet of laying quails based on egg development, egg quality, and antioxidant capacity. A total of 120 female quails (244.7 ± 10.38 g) were randomly assigned to 6 experimental groups with 5 ...

Efficacy of Maternal Choline Supplementation During Pregnancy in Mitigating Adverse Effects of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure on Growth and Cognitive Function: A Randomized, Double‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesAlcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 2018
BACKGROUND We recently demonstrated the acceptability and feasibility of a randomized, double-blind choline supplementation intervention for heavy drinking women during pregnancy.
