The study documented here was aimed to find the molecular interactions of some of the cannabinoid constituents of cannabis with acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Molecular docking and LogP determination were performed to predict the AChE inhibitory effect and

Specific Basal Forebrain–Cortical Cholinergic Circuits Coordinate Cognitive Operations
Based on recent molecular genetics, as well as functional and quantitative anatomical studies, the basal forebrain (BF) cholinergic projections, once viewed as a diffuse system, are emerging as being remarkably specific in connectivity.

An activity‐dependent pathway links prefrontal circuit hypoactivity to cognitive impairment. Reduced PVA–mPFC activity upregulates NEPAS, which suppresses PTX3 secretion, leading to impaired angiogenesis, myelin deficits, and memory decline. Rescue is achieved by NEPAS knockdown or chemogenetic circuit activation.

Dopamine D_2-receptor activation elicits akinesia, rigidity, catalepsy, and tremor in mice expressing hypersensitive 4 nicotinic receptors via a cholinergic-dependent mechanism [PDF]
Recent studies suggest that high-affinity neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) containing α4 and β2 subunits (α4β2*) functionally interact with G-protein-coupled dopamine (DA) D_2 receptors in basal ganglia.

A novel mouse model simulating C5 palsy after cervical surgery
This study establishes a reliable mouse model of permanent C5 palsy (post‐laminectomy complication) via dorsal approach, selectively severing the C5 anterior nerve root while preserving the posterior root through partial C4 and C5 laminectomy. The model successfully replicates clinical C5P features—flaccid shoulder paralysis, electrophysiological ...

Nicotinic modulation of cortical circuits
The ascending cholinergic neuromodulatory system sends projections throughout cortex and has been shown to play an important role in a number of cognitive functions including arousal, working memory, and attention. However, despite a wealth of behavioral

New Insights Into Cholinergic Neuron Diversity
Cholinergic neurons comprise a small population of cells in the striatum but have fundamental roles in fine tuning brain function, and in the etiology of neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) or schizophrenia.

Changes in neuromuscular structure and functions of human colon during ageing are region-dependent [PDF]
Objective: To determine if human colonic neuromuscular functions decline with increasing age.Design: Looking for non-specific changes in neuromuscular function, a standard burst of electrical field stimulation (EFS) was used to evoke neuronally mediated (
