Chondroitin sulfate and joint disease

open access: yesOsteoarthritis and Cartilage, 1998
Chondroitin sulfate is an important and major component of articular cartilage, where it occurs as part of the large proteoglycan, aggrecan. In the early stages of joint disease, both in animal models and in man, there are changes in chondroitin sulfate that affect the chain length and the pattern of sulfation.

Immunological Activity of Chondroitin Sulfate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Publisher Summary The use of chondroitin sulfate (CS) for the symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) has become very popular; however, it has also been the subject of controversy for several reasons. First, the nutraceutical industry is less regulated than the pharmaceutical industry, and thus the nutraceutical CS often suffers from poor ...

Dual‐Modular Hydrogel Microparticles with Precision‐Modulation of Inflammatory Microenvironment Dictate Full‐Thickness Cartilage Regeneration for Osteoarthritis Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cartilage injury is a prominent pathological hallmark of osteoarthritis. In this study, we developed a two‐modular hydrogel microparticle system wherein HMP‐A effectively targets the damaged area, while HMP‐B forms an efficient connection with HMP‐A on the cartilage surface.

Biohybrid Computing with Proteinoids and Algae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We developed a novel biohybrid computing system by combining proteinoid microspheres with algae. The biological mixture creates spontaneous electrical oscillations. These oscillations can perform simple logic operations, such as AND, OR, NAND, and NOR gates. Environmental factors like temperature and pH affect how the system works.

Diabetes Results in Structural Alteration of Chondroitin Sulfate in the Urine

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2013
Purpose. The assessment of the clinical significance of chondroitin sulfate in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) for the detection of the relationship between chondroitin sulfate (CS) structure and disease ...

Chondroitin Sulfate Proteoglycans in the Nervous System: Inhibitors to Repair

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2014
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) are widely expressed in the normal central nervous system, serving as guidance cues during development and modulating synaptic connections in the adult.

An Osteoconductive Janus Hydrogel with Full Barrier Protection and Adaptable Degradation Properties for Superior Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The filler‐barrier hydrogel system developed by dual‐network Janus structural strategy breaks through the difficulty of a single hydrogel to combine barrier protection with bone regeneration, and realizes the regeneration‐material degradation adaptation for the field of mandibular regeneration.

Chondroitin sulfate and neuronal disorders

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2016
The brain extracellular matrix (ECM) is involved in several aspects of neuronal development, plasticity, and pathophysiology. Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs), consisting of core proteins with covalently attached chondroitin sulfate (CS) chains, are essential components of the brain ECM. During late postnatal development, CSPGs condense around

Hologenomics Reveals Specialized Dietary Adaptations in the Mengla Snail‐Eating Snake

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary adaptation studies from a holobiome perspective are scarce beyond mammals. This research reveals how genomic and microbial interactions drive dietary specialization in the Mengla snail‐eating snake, with evidence of gut symbiont convergence between reptiles and mammals.
