Hyperglycosylated human chorionic gonadotropin and human chorionic gonadotropin free beta-subunit: tumor markers and tumor promoters.

open access: yesThe Journal of reproductive medicine, 2008
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a heterogeneous glycoprotein hormone comprising an alpha-subunit and beta-subunit that can vary in peptide and carbohydrate structure. After conception, hCG produced by early trophoblast cells acts on luteinizing hormone (LH)/hCG receptor corpus luteum cells to promote progesterone production and establish maternal

SYNTHESIS OF CARBOXYL TERMINAL SEGMENTS OF BETA-SUBUNIT OF HUMAN CHORIONIC GONADOTROPIN

International Journal of Peptide and Protein Research, 1980
The synthesis in solution of carboxyl terminal peptide segments of the beta‐subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin is described. The protected segments include sequences 119–131, 132–137, and 138–145. The syntheses were based on a standardized liquid‐liquid extraction program for routine purification of intermediates (two‐phase method).

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin β-Subunit in Human Semen

Archives of Andrology, 1988
The level of human seminal chorionic gonadotropin beta-subunit (hCG beta) was determined by radioimmunoassay (RIA). The mean hCG beta level in 34 normal men was 3.7 +/- 1.6 ng/ml, which was much higher than that in serum. The mean hCG beta level for 20 patients with mild oligozoospermia (20-39 x 10(6) sperm/ml) was 2.5 +/- 0.8 ng/ml, that for 34 ...

Immunological properties of the β-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1976
Abstract The β-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG-β) has been modified to a varying degree by the cleavage of the disulfide bonds by reduction with dithioerythritol followed by S-carboxamidomethylation. The resulting derivatives of hCG-β show a preferential loss in their immunological cross-reactivity with human luteinizing hormone (hLH ...

Immunological properties of dinitrophenyl derivatives of beta-subunit of the human chorionic gonadotropin

Contraception, 1976
Abstract Four different derivatives with varying proportions of dinitrophenyl (DNP) groups tagged covalently to β-subunit of HCG (DNP (1) -β-HCG, DNP (3.3) -β-HCG, DNP (6) -β-HCG and DNP (10) -β-HCG) have been prepared. Their immunogenicity as well as the reactivity of antibodies formed in mice, rabbit and rhesus monkey have been studied.
