Physics of Rheologically-Enhanced Propulsion: Different Strokes in Generalized Stokes [PDF]
Shear-thinning is an important rheological property of many biological fluids, such as mucus, whereby the apparent viscosity of the fluid decreases with shear.

Molecular Phylogeny of the Cyrtophorid Ciliates (Protozoa, Ciliophora, Phyllopharyngea)
Evolutionary relationships of cyrtophorian ciliates are poorly known because molecular data of most groups within this subclass are lacking. In the present work, the SS rRNA genes belonging to 17 genera, 7 families of Cyrtophoria were sequenced and ...

Recent Advances in Collective Behaviors of Micro/Nanomotor Swarms
This review describes the driving forces behind collective motion, explores the self‐organization of micro/nano swarms across zero‐dimensional (0D), one‐dimensional (1D), two‐dimensional (2D), and three‐dimensional (3D) spaces, and highlights their potential in drug delivery, environmental monitoring, and smart devices.

Identification of Sequences Encoding Symbiodinium minutum Mitochondrial Proteins. [PDF]
The dinoflagellates are an extremely diverse group of algae closely related to the Apicomplexa and the ciliates. Much work has previously been undertaken to determine the presence of various biochemical pathways within dinoflagellate mitochondria ...

Recent Progress on Flexible Multimodal Sensors: Decoupling Strategies, Fabrication and Applications
In this review, we establish a tripartite decoupling framework for flexible multimodal sensors, which elucidates the underlying principles of signal crosstalk and their solutions through material design, structural engineering, and AI algorithms. We also demonstrate its potential applications across environmental monitoring, health monitoring, human ...

Untethered Magnetic Microswimmers for Targeted Particle Transport and Flow Manipulation
This work introduces magnetically actuated microswimmers to dynamically reconfigure fluid flow within a single microfluidic device. Multiple homogeneous microswimmers are independently controlled by an external magnetic field to perform translational and rotational motions, thereby inducing real‐time flow manipulation.

Living unicellular eukaryote Tetrahymena pyriformis as a model for study of mitochondrial energetics in mammalian cells under conditions of reduced oxidative metabolism. [PDF]
Some “animal-like” protozoa are used instead of mammalian cells in diverse investigations. _Tetrahymena pyriformis_ cells in stationary phase of growth and washed from oxidative substrates (_T.pyriformis_) function under conditions of ...

Act together—implications of symbioses in aquatic ciliates
Mutual interactions in the form of symbioses can increase the fitness of organisms and provide them with the capacity to occupy new ecological niches. The formation of obligate symbioses allows for rapid evolution of new life forms including multitrophic
