A call for using natural compounds in the development of new antimalarial treatments – an introduction [PDF]
Natural compounds, mostly from plants, have been the mainstay of traditional medicine for thousands of years. They have also been the source of lead compounds for modern medicine, but the extent of mining of natural compounds for such leads decreased ...

Chiral gem‐dicyano‐spirocyclopropyl oxindoles are obtained by a chiral N‐9‐Anth‐PyBidine‐Co(OAc)2‐catalyzed asymmetric Michael/alkylation reaction of 3‐chlorooxindoles with alkylidenemalononitriles. The three‐component coupling reaction of 3‐chlorooxindoles, aldehydes, and malononitrile shows the advantage of not requiring the preparation of ...

ABSTRACT This study investigates the foliar secondary metabolite profiles of four Mitragyna species naturally occurring in Thailand: M. diversifolia, M. hirsuta, M. rotundifolia, and M. speciosa (kratom). Using untargeted gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), 409 secondary volatile metabolites were annotated across the four species.

Isophorone is an important motif in synthetic organic chemistry, as it is highly reactive and can get involved in a diverse array of functional group transformations to access various synthetic intermediates and molecular targets. In this context, an important group of compounds is the conjugated or nonconjugated isophorone‐cored dienones, which are ...

Cupreines and cupreidines: an established class of bifunctional cinchona organocatalysts
Cinchona alkaloids with a free 6'-OH functionality are being increasingly used within asymmetric organocatalysis. This fascinating class of bifunctional catalyst offers a genuine alternative to the more commonly used thiourea systems and because of the ...
