Biomarkers in endotoxemia with a special interest in citrullinated histone H3

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Sepsis with multi-organ failure has an unacceptably high mortality rate of 25-30% despite the use of antibiotics and modern intensive care. Attenuating the multi-organ failure and finding new biomarkers for early detection of septic shock would be of high clinical relevance in order to improve outcome.

Moxibustion-mediated alleviation of synovitis in rats with rheumatoid arthritis through the regulation of NLRP3 inflammasome by modulating neutrophil extracellular traps

open access: yesHeliyon
Purpose: This study investigates the potential mechanism of moxibustion in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by regulating the neutrophil extracellular trap (NET)/NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome ...

The effect of chemical fixation with paraformaldehyde, glutardialdehyde or methanol on immunofluorescence staining of neutrophils and neutrophil extracellular traps

open access: yesInnate Immunity
The formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) is known as an important part of the innate immune response. Still, some mechanisms regarding their formation and role during a disease are not completely understood yet.

From Inflammation to Bone Loss: The Multifaceted Role of Neutrophils in Osteoporosis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Inflammation
Neutrophils, the most abundant innate immune cells, have recently emerged as central regulators in the pathogenesis and treatment of osteoporosis. Traditionally viewed as transient inflammatory responders, neutrophils are now recognized as dynamic ...

Evaluation of NETosis (Neutrophil Extracellular Traps) biomarkers in smokers and nonsmokers periodontitis patients [version 2; peer review: 1 approved, 3 approved with reservations, 2 not approved]

open access: yesF1000Research
Background To evaluate the NETosis biomarkers citrullinated histone H3 (citH3), neutrophil elastase (ELA), calprotectin (CALPRO), and myeloperoxidase (MPO) as indicators of inflammation in the severe stages of periodontitis III and IV in both (smokers ...

Quantification of Citrullinated Histone H3 as a Marker for Neutrophil Extracellular Traps Correlated to Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArchivum Immunologiae et Therapiae Experimentalis
Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease whose pathogenesis is not fully understood to date. One of the suggested mechanisms for its development is NETosis, which involves the release of a specific network consisting of chromatin, proteins, and enzymes from neutrophils, stimulating the ...

Bone marrow aspirate Cit-H3 was identified as a novel biomarker of minimal residual disease in neuroblastoma

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Background Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most prevalent extracranial solid tumor in children. Neutrophils release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) following intense or prolonged activation. Neutrophil elastase (ELA2) and citrullinated histone H3 (Cit-H3)
