Temporal dynamics of class 1 and class 3 integron pools in treated wastewater

open access: yesWater Research
Wastewater is a hotspot for the spread and evolution of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with integrons playing a key role in the dissemination of AMR. However, there is limited information available regarding the integron pool of wastewater environments.

Antimicrobial Resistance, Class 1 Integrons, and Genomic Island 1 in Salmonella Isolates from Vietnam

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
The objective was to investigate the phenotypic and genotypic resistance and the horizontal transfer of resistance determinants from Salmonella isolates from humans and animals in Vietnam. The susceptibility of 297 epidemiologically unrelated non-typhoid Salmonella isolates was investigated by disk diffusion assay.

Rapid Typing of Extended‐Spectrum β‐Lactamase (ESBL)‐ and Metallo‐β‐Lactamase (MBL)‐Producing Enterobacterales Using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT‐IR) Spectroscopy

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
Clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter cloacae complex were analyzed using FT‐IR spectroscopy and genotyping methods. High concordance was observed, demonstrating the potential of FT‐IR spectroscopy as a rapid screening tool.

High Frequency of Class 1 Integrons in Escherichia coli Isolated From Patients With Urinary Tract Infections in Yasuj, Iran

open access: yesIranian Red Crescent Medical Journal, 2016
Background: Most urinary tract infections (UTI) are caused by Escherichia coli. Integrons have an important role in distributing antibiotic resistance genes among bacteria.

Distribution characteristics of integrons and correlation analysis of antibiotic resistance in urine isolated Enterobacter cloacae

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
ObjectiveThis study aims to understand the distribution of integrons among Enterobacter cloacae isolated from clinical urine specimens in our hospital, as well as the molecular characteristics of the variable region resistance gene cassette of integron ...

Identification of class 1 and 2 integrons from clinical and environmental Salmonella isolates

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2014
Introduction: The indiscriminate use of antimicrobials has selected for the emergence of resistant strains. Many mechanisms contribute to the spread of antimicrobial-resistant genes, and integrons play a key role in this process.

Genetic relatedness among isolates of Shigella sonnei carrying class 2 integrons in Tehran, Iran, 2002–2003 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: Shigella spp. are major cause of diarrhoeal disease in both developing and developed countries. Shigella sonnei is the serogroup of Shigella most frequently responsible for sporadic and epidemic enteritis in developed countries.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria found in municipal drinking water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Multidrug resistant bacteria in water supply systems have been emerging as a growing public health concern. Many factors affect the source and fate of these bacteria.
