Mechanism and Molecular Design Principles of Cationic Surfactants: From Charge‐Driven Membrane Interactions to Next‐Generation Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 5, 13 March 2026.
Within this review we provide an overview of the social relevance of quaternary ammonium surfactants, different classes of these agents, their interaction mechanism with cellular membranes, structure activity relation, bacterial resistance toward these systems and new approaches to guarantee their long‐term efficiency.

In Silico Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance Integrons in Salmonella enterica Isolates from Countries of the Andean Community

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2021
Antimicrobial resistance genes are often associated with integrons, which promote their movement between and within DNA molecules. IntFinder 1.0 and I-VIP v1.2 were used for the detection of integrons and their associated resistance genes in assembled ...

Safeguarding a Flagship Species: Integrated Surveillance of Cross‐Species Pathogen Transmission in Giant Panda Ecosystems

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Emerging infectious diseases increasingly threaten giant pandas and cohabiting species. This review analyzes pathogen transmission risks from domestic animals, wildlife, and vectors and proposes an integrated genomic surveillance framework for early warning and biodiversity conservation.

Molecular Screening and Antibiogram Profile of Multidrug‐Resistant Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli Isolated From Retail Chicken Meat

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Multidrug‐resistant enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (MDR‐EPEC) were investigated in retail chicken meat from Bangladesh. Molecular confirmation, antibiogram profiling, and resistance gene detection revealed universal multidrug resistance with high MAR indices, indicating intense antimicrobial pressure and highlighting significant food safety and ...

Antibiotic Resistance and Pathogenicity of Vibrio Species in Aquaculture: Implications for Fish Health and Food Safety in LMICs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Pathogenic Vibrio species isolated from aquaculture environments in low‐ and middle‐income countries exhibit elevated antimicrobial resistance and multiple virulence traits. These findings highlight significant risks to fish health and food safety, underscoring the need for strengthened antimicrobial stewardship, robust biosecurity measures and ...

Occurrence and composition of class 1 and class 2 integrons in clinical and environmental O1 and non-O1/non-O139 Vibrio cholerae strains from the Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2010
This study identified and characterised class 1 and 2 integrons in clinical and environmental Vibrio cholerae O1 and non-O1/non-O139 strains isolated from the Brazilian Amazon.

Characterization of antibiotic resistance integrons harbored by Romanian Escherichia coli uropathogenic strains

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2020
Because little is known about the integrons which constitute an important means of spreading resistance in bacteria circulating in Romania, this study aimed to detect antibiotic resistance gene cassettes embedded in integrons in a convenient collection ...

Incidence of Class 1 Integrons in a Quaternary Ammonium Compound-Polluted Environment [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2005
ABSTRACTSamples of effluent and soil were collected from a reed bed system used to remediate liquid waste from a wool finishing mill with a high use of quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) and were compared with samples of agricultural soils. Resistance quotients of aerobic gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria to ditallowdimethylammomium chloride ...

Activation of class 1 integron integrase is promoted in the intestinal environment

open access: yesPLOS Genetics, 2022
Class 1 integrons are widespread genetic elements playing a major role in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance. They allow bacteria to capture, express and exchange antibiotic resistance genes embedded within gene cassettes. Acquisition of gene cassettes is catalysed by the class 1 integron integrase, a site-specific recombinase playing a key ...

Marginal Tax Rates of Canadian Public Firms and the Applicability of Marginal Tax Rates in Corporate Decisions*

open access: yesAccounting Perspectives, Volume 25, Issue 1, Page 55-93, March 2026.
ABSTRACT While several US studies demonstrate the importance of using marginal tax rates (MTRs) to study corporate decisions and tax incentives, research using MTR in the Canadian setting is limited. The MTR literature has made several improvements on the estimation process using US firms, but these advances have not been made available for Canadian ...
