Sirt1–Claudin-1 crosstalk regulates renal function
Nature Medicine, 2013Understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern diabetes-induced loss of kidney function is crucial. A new study shows that in mouse models of diabetes, sirtuin 1 (Sirt1) in the proximal tubules of the kidney can modulate the expression of podocyte Claudin-1, a key regulator of albuminuria and glomerular function (pages 1496–1504).

Clinical significance of serum claudin-1 levels in melanoma patients
Melanoma Research, 2016Claudins are the most important structural and functional components of tight-junction integral membrane proteins. They play roles in major cellular functions including growth and adhesion and are responsible for regulating the paracellular transport of molecules.

Delocalized Claudin-1 promotes metastasis of human osteosarcoma cells
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2015Tight junction proteins (TJPs) including Claudins, Occludin and tight junction associated protein Zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), are the most apical component of junctional complex that mediates cell-cell adhesion in epithelial and endothelial cells. In human malignancies, TJPs are often deregulated and affect cellular behaviors of tumor cells.

Abstract: Claudin‐1 (CLDN1) is a structural tight junction (TJ) protein and is expressed in differentiating keratinocytes and Langerhans cells in the epidermis. Our objective was to identify immunoreactive CLDN1 in human epidermal Langerhans cells and to examine the pattern of epidermal Langerhans cells in genetic human CLDN1 deficiency [neonatal ...

Claudin-1 expressions decrease in pterygium with respect to normal conjunctiva
Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology, 2016Pterygium is the fibrovascular growth of the limbal conjunctiva over cornea. This proliferative nature might have a pathogenesis associated with tight junction proteins. To investigate the tight junction protein claudin-1 expressions in pterygium with respect to normal conjunctiva. This retrospective study included 28 patients who underwent pterygium ...

Diverse Regulation of Claudin-1 and Claudin-4 in Atopic Dermatitis
The American Journal of Pathology, 2015Tight junctions are important for skin barrier function. The tight junction protein claudin 1 (Cldn-1) has been reported to be down-regulated in nonlesional skin of atopic dermatitis (AD) patients. In contrast, we did not observe a significant down-regulation of Cldn-1 in nonlesional skin of the AD cohort used in this study. However, for the first time,

Single-Molecular-Level Study of Claudin-1-Mediated Adhesion
Langmuir, 2007Claudins are proteins that are selectively expressed at tight junctions (TJs) of epithelial cells where they play a central role in regulating paracellular permeability of solutes across epithelia. However, the role of claudins in intercellular adhesion and the mechanism by which they regulate the diffusion of solutes are poorly understood. Here, using

Еxpression of claudin-1, 3, and 4 in colorectal cancer and polyps
Arkhiv patologii, 2016Claudins are a family of transmembrane tight junctions proteins. It is proven that claudins undergo structural and functional alteration in malignant cells. However, very few researches are pursued on this topic, the data provided by different researchers are controversial.
