FAD Regulates CRYPTOCHROME Protein Stability and Circadian Clock in Mice

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Summary: The circadian clock generates biological rhythms of metabolic and physiological processes, including the sleep-wake cycle. We previously identified a missense mutation in the flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) binding pocket of CRYPTOCHROME2 ...

DeltaC and DeltaD ligands play different roles in the segmentation clock dynamics

open access: yesNature Communications
The vertebrate segmentation clock drives periodic somite segmentation during embryonic development. Her1 and Her7 clock proteins generate oscillatory expression of their own genes as well as that of deltaC in zebrafish. In turn, DeltaC and DeltaD ligands

Regulation of behavioral circadian rhythms and clock protein PER1 by the deubiquitinating enzyme USP2

open access: yesBiology Open, 2012
Summary Endogenous 24-hour rhythms are generated by circadian clocks located in most tissues. The molecular clock mechanism is based on feedback loops involving clock genes and their protein products.

Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

An evolutionary hotspot defines functional differences between CRYPTOCHROMES

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The molecular mechanisms that define the periodicity or rate of the circadian clock are not well understood. Here the authors use a multidisciplinary approach and identify a mechanism for period regulation that depends on the affinity of the core clock ...

A role for the PERIOD:PERIOD homodimer in the Drosophila circadian clock.

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2009
Circadian clocks in eukaryotes rely on transcriptional feedback loops, in which clock genes repress their own transcription resulting in molecular oscillations with a period of approximately 24 h.

Unlocking the potential of tumor‐derived DNA in urine for cancer detection: methodological challenges and opportunities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...
