Defect‐Engineered Microwave‐Responsive Ni@C Composites From Waste PET for Catalytic Plastic Upcycling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A circular upcycling strategy transforms waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) bottles into microwave‐responsive Ni@C catalyst featuring lattice‐distorted nickel cores and defective carbon shells. These strain‐rich heterointerfaces enhance dielectric loss and promote localized microwave hotspots, accelerating peroxymonosulfate activation and polymer‐chain

S‐Nitrosothiols as Thiol‐Protecting Groups for Controlled Thiol‐Maleimide Crosslinking of Homogeneous Soft Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid thiol‐maleimide addition frequently outpaces mixing, resulting in heterogeneous hydrogels. S‐nitrosothiols act as thiol‐protecting groups, allowing uniform mixing with maleimide‐functionalized polymers before gelation. Sodium thiosulfate or sodium ascorbate then regenerates thiols on demand, triggering controlled thiol‐maleimide crosslinking ...

Comparing the  Cytotoxic Effects of Clove Essential Oil (Syzygium Aromaticum) and its Major Compound (Eugenol) Against Some Human Breast Cancer Cell Lines [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biomedical Sciences, 2020
Background & Objective: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, especially in developed countries. Because of resistance to chemotropic drugs, the development of new green drugs is crucial.

Iterative Selection of DNA Nanostructures for Cellular Uptake

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
DNA nanostructures are promising cell targeting delivery vehicles for therapeutics, but the targeting behavior is not fully understood. In this study, libraries of DNA nanostructures that can be amplified and sequenced are combined with cellular uptake as a selection pressure to iteratively refine DNA structures taken up in cells to better understand ...

Microfluidic Droplet Plate Preserving Single Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Cardiomyocytes Morphology and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce a novel method combining microfluidics, optogenetics, and human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology to encapsulate single iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes (iPSC‐CMs) in an optimal environment for functional characterization. This method enables direct genotype‐phenotype correlation for genetic studies and high‐throughput screening ...

THE EFFECTIVE DIFFUSIVITY OF CLOVE(Eugenia caryophyllus) ESSENTIAL OIL IN PRESSURIZED CO2

open access: yesCiência e Tecnologia de Alimentos, 1997
The effective diffusivity of clove essential oil in subcritical liquid CO2 was estimated. The experimental apparatus employed was a fixed-bed extractor. The fixed bed was formed with grounded (mesh -32 + 65) and compacted clove buds which were considered a solid element.

Coixenolide Enhances Antitumor Immunity of Cytotoxic CD8+ T Cells by Inhibiting S100A8/A9‐CD36 Axis in Obesity‐Associated Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) remains highly lethal with limited treatment options. This study demonstrates that coixenolide, a bioactive compound from Coix lacryma‐jobi L. and a key component of the clinically approved Kanglaite injection, exhibits enhanced antitumor efficacy in high‐fat diet (HFD)‐induced obese mice bearing PAAD tumors compared to

Underground Signals: The Ecological Power of Root Volatiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root volatiles mediate rhizosphere chemical communication, shaping interactions among plants, microbes, herbivores, and natural enemies. Their production, transport, and perception underpin ecological adaptation, multitrophic interactions, and plant resilience, offering opportunities for sustainable crop protection, resilient agroecosystems, and ...

RNAi in the Rhizarian Phytopathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae: The Causal Agent of Clubroot Disease in Cruciferous Crops

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers an unusual RNAi pathway in the rhizarian pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae. In the absence of Dicer, a Drosha‐like RNase III protein supports the biogenesis of predominant 21‐nt small RNAs, and two Argonaute proteins mediate small RNA‐guided silencing.

Pathologic evaluation of Syzygium aromaticum essential oil against pulmonary aspergillosis in non-neutropenic immunosuppressed rabbits

open access: yesScientific Reports
Aspergillus is a genus of saprophytic fungi which is found in soil, construction equipment, and hospital environments. Invasive aspergillosis occurring in immunocompromised individuals or in patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy is recognized as a
