Early maternal experience shapes offspring performance in the wild [PDF]
Both the environments experienced by a mother as a juvenile and an adult can affect her investment in offspring. However, the implications of these maternal legacies, both juvenile and adult, for offspring fitness in natural populations are unclear.

Adhesion-clutch between DCC and netrin-1 mediates netrin-1–induced axonal haptotaxis
The growth cone, a motile structure located at the tip of growing axons, senses extracellular guidance cues and translates them into directional forces that drive axon outgrowth and guidance.

Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

Diaphragm spring gives clutch over-center toggle effect [PDF]
Diaphragm spring clutch mechanism is used in testing the relative merits of eddy-current and hysteresis dampers. The dampers are alternately coupled to a single damping boom shaft.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Glacial cycles promote greater dispersal, which can help explain larger clutch sizes, in north temperate birds [PDF]
Earth’s glacial history and patterns in the life history traits of the planet’s avifauna suggest the following interpretations of how recent geological history has affected these key characteristics of the biota: 1) Increased colonizing ...

Latitudinal, longitudinal and weather-related variation in breeding parameters of Great Reed Warblers in Europe: A meta-analysis [PDF]
Capsule Clutch initiation date decreased with longitude, clutch size increased with latitude and decreased with maximum temperature, whereas the number of fledglings increased both with latitude and longitude, and decreased with maximum temperature in 19
