Purine Metabolism and Dystonia: Perspectives of a Long‐Promised Relationship

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Purine pool imbalance in purine metabolism disorders, such as Lesch–Nyhan disease, intersects with dystonia pathogenesis. The recent discovery of gain‐of‐function IMPDH2 pathogenic variants in patients with prominent dystonic manifestations provides new insights into the link between dystonia and purinergic system defects.

On a question of A. Balog [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We give a partial answer to a conjecture of A. Balog, concerning the size of AA+A, where A is a finite subset of real numbers. Also, we prove several new results on the cardinality of A:A+A, AA+AA and A:A + A:A.

Selenocysteine, pyrrolysine and the unique energy metabolism of methanogenic archaea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Methanogenic archaea are a group of strictly anaerobic microorganisms characterized by their strict dependence on the process of methanogenesis for energy conservation.

Induction of Cell Death by Combined Treatment with Photosensitizer‐Chitosan Nanoparticles and the Ferroptosis Inducer RSL3 in Breast Cancer Cell Lines

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that combination of phosphosensitizer‐conjugated chitosan nanoparticles and ferroptosis inducer RSL3 increases cell death in mesenchymal breast cancer cells. Data suggests that this is attributed to variations in ferroptosis‐related protein expression, lipid peroxydation and mitochondrial function.

Enumeration of symmetric centered rhombus tilings of a hexagon [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
A rhombus tiling of a hexagon is said to be centered if it contains the central lozenge. We compute the number of vertically symmetric rhombus tilings of a hexagon with side lengths $a, b, a, a, b, a$ which are centered. When $a$ is odd and $b$ is even, this shows that the probability that a random vertically symmetric rhombus tiling of a $a, b, a, a ...

Pleiotropic effects of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme a reductase inhibitors.

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, 2001
The 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors or statins are potent inhibitors of cholesterol biosynthesis. Several large clinical trials have demonstrated the beneficial effects of statins in the primary and secondary prevention of ...

A revised nomenclature for mammalian acyl-CoA thioesterases/hydrolases

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2005
Acyl-CoA thioesterases, also known as acyl-CoA hydrolases, are a group of enzymes that hydrolyze CoA esters such as acyl-CoAs (saturated, unsaturated, branched-chain), bile acid-CoAs, CoA esters of prostaglandins, etc., to the corresponding free acid and

Circulating levels of reactive oxygen species in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and the influence of antioxidant supplementation: 6-month follow-up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aim was to evaluate circulating levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and changes in central macular thickness (CMT) in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) after antioxidant supplementation.

Impact of Salmonella genome rearrangement on gene expression

open access: yesEvolution Letters, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 426-437, December 2022., 2022
Abstract In addition to nucleotide variation, many bacteria also undergo changes at a much larger scale via rearrangement of their genome structure (GS) around long repeat sequences. These rearrangements result in genome fragments shifting position and/or orientation in the genome without necessarily affecting the underlying nucleotide sequence.

Restricted-sum-dominant sets [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Let $A$ be a nonempty finite subset of an additive abelian group $G$. Define $A + A := \{a + b : a, b \in A\}$ and $A \dotplus A := \{a + b : a, b \in A~\text{and}~ a \neq b\}$. The set $A$ is called a {\em sum-dominant (SD) set} if $|A + A| > |A - A|$, and it is called a {\em restricted sum-domonant (RSD) set} if $|A \dotplus A| > |A - A|$.
