Role of mitochondria in neuronal cell death induced by oxidative stress; neuroprotection by Coenzyme Q10

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2005
Neuronal cells depend on mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation for most of their energy needs and therefore are at a particular risk for oxidative stress.

Cardiorenal Involvement in Metabolic Syndrome Induced by Cola Drinking in Rats: Proinflammatory Cytokines and Impaired Antioxidative Protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We report experimental evidence confirming renal histopathology, proinflammatory mediators, and oxidative metabolism induced by cola drinking. Male Wistar rats drank ad libitum regular cola (C, = 12) or tap water (W, = 12). Measures.

Dry Eye Disease: Oxidative Stress on Ocular Surface and Cutting‐Edge Antioxidants

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, EarlyView.
This review has systematically evaluated the oxidative damage of cornea, tear film, lacrimal gland, conjunctiva and meibomian gland for dry eye, and concluded the antioxidants that are either commercially available or in the research phase. GQDs: Graphene quantum dots; LF: lactoferrin; ROS: Reactive oxygen species; SOD: Superoxide dismutase; tFNA ...

Electron spin and the origin of Bio-homochirality I. Extant enzymatic reaction model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
In this paper, I tentatively put forward a new hypothesis that the emergence of a single chiral form of biomolecules in living organisms is specifically determined by the electron spin state during their enzyme-catalyzed synthesis processes. Specifically speaking, the electrons released from the coenzyme NAD(P)H of amino acid synthase are heterogeneous

The role of Coenzyme Q10 in statin-associated myopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Statins, or 3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors,\ud are cholesterol-lowering drugs which are frequently used in the primary and secondary\ud prevention of coronary artery disease. Current research and recommendations support\

Mitochondrial dysfunction: Related diseases, influencing factors, and detection

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial dysfunction is implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous diseases, including neurological disorders, cancers, and cardiovascular conditions, through mechanisms such as mitochondrial DNA mutations, dysregulation of mitochondrial network dynamics, and impaired mitophagy.

THE MODERN METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF OXIDIZED AND REDUCED FORMS OF COENZYME Q₁₀ IN BIOMATERIAL (REVIEW)

open access: yesРазработка и регистрация лекарственных средств, 2019
In the human body, coenzyme Q10 is in the oxidized and reduced forms and can be found in every organ. The review describes modern HPLC methods of coenzyme Q10 analysis using electrochemical, spectrophotometric and mass spectrometric detectors.

Atorvastatin therapy and antioxidant status correction in patients with metabolic syndrome

open access: yesРоссийский кардиологический журнал, 2013
Aim. To study the changes in antioxidant status and glucose-insulin homeostasis among atorvastatin-treated patients with metabolic syndrome and to investigate the potential of coenzyme Q10 for the correction of these changes. Material and methods.

Effect of metabolic and antioxidant supplementation on sperm parameters in oligo-astheno-teratozoospermia, with and without varicocele: a double-blind placebo-controlled study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Since sperm require high energy levels to perform their specialised function, it is vital that essential nutrients are available for spermatozoa when they develop, capacitate and acquire motility.

Regional outbreak of parvovirus B19 acute myocarditis in preschool children

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
We recently came across an outbreak of parvovirus B19 related acute myocarditis in preschool children in a specific region in northern Greece. The children exhibited serious morbidity and mortality. All children had very poor left ventricular ejection fraction and required inotropic intensive care unit support.
