Rumen methanogenic archaea and their correlation with enteric methane emission in ruminant animals: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Livestock, especially ruminants, are a major source of global methane emissions, primarily produced by methanogenic archaea during enteric fermentation. We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis to account for factors that could influence the relationship between ruminal methanogenic populations and methane emissions, such ...

Mitochondrial Dysfunction Combined with Elevated CoQ10 Levels Specifically in Placental Cytotrophoblasts Suggests a Role for Mitophagy in Preeclampsia

open access: yesBiology
Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy disorder of unknown etiology. One of its cellular hallmarks is increased mitochondrial dysfunction in placental tissue. Further investigation into this aspect may help elucidate the molecular basis of preeclampsia.

Alogliptin Reduces Oxidative Stress in Cardiomyocytes and Ameliorates Diabetic Cardiomyopathy via the AURKB/NLGN2 Signaling

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus. This study investigated the effects of alogliptin on DCM and its underlying mechanisms. A DCM model was constructed and treated with alogliptin. Downstream targets of alogliptin were screened using bioinformatics analysis.

Atorvastatin Induces Bioenergetic Impairment and Oxidative Stress Through Reverse Electron Transport

open access: yesAntioxidants
Statins are the first-line therapy for managing elevated cholesterol levels that represent a risk of acute cardiovascular events. However, the use of statins is associated with several side effects, likely due to the depletion of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a ...

White Adipose Tissue Browning and Cross Talk With Metabolic Diseases and Tumors: From Molecular Mechanisms to Clinical Translation

open access: yesMed Research, EarlyView.
White adipose tissue undergoes browning under endogenous and exogenous stimuli, primarily regulated by core molecules such as PRDM16 and UCP1. It exhibits a double‐edged sword effect in metabolic diseases and tumors: while mitigating metabolic disease impacts and suppressing early‐stage tumors through nutritional competition, it may accelerate cachexia

Elevation of Stearoyl‐Coenzyme A Desaturase and Monounsaturated Fatty Acids in Parkinson's Disease Serum

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Emerging evidence indicates that dysregulation of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), synthesized by the enzyme stearoyl‐coenzyme A desaturase (SCD), impacts on α‐synuclein pathology in the Parkinson's disease (PD) brain. Objective The objective of this study was to analyze SCD and MUFA‐enriched lipids in the periphery of patients ...

Quantitative Imaging of Pyruvate Metabolism in a Patient With Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Magnetic resonance imaging using hyperpolarized (HP) [1‐13C]‐pyruvate enables assessment of pyruvate metabolism in vivo and offers new insight into metabolic changes in response to cancer therapy. Widely used semi‐quantitative metrics of pyruvate metabolism can be affected by physiological factors that are extrinsic to intracellular ...

Determination of Reduced and Oxidized Coenzyme Q10 in Canine Plasma and Heart Tissue by HPLC-ECD: Comparison with LC-MS/MS Quantification

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2019
Coenzyme Q10 (Q10) plays an important role in mammals for energy production in the mitochondria, and as a potent antioxidant. Oxidation ratio (% oxidized in relation to total Q10) has been proposed as an important biomarker.

Alterations in Metabolites Associated With Umbilical Cord Blood in Monozygotic Twins Discordant for Congenital Heart Disease

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
This study found that the metabolomic signature of umbilical venous cord blood in congenital heart disease (CHD) differs from that of healthy monozygotic (MZ) co‐twins. Dysregulation of metabolic pathways like glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, along with altered metabolites, helps understand CHD predisposition.
