ENDOGENOUS IAA AND WATER UPTAKE IN DEVELOPING COFFEE FLOWER BUDS [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1991
Dormant coffee (Coffea arabica L.) flower buds require water stress to stimulate regrowth. A xylem specific watersoluble dye, azosulfamide, was used to quantify the uptake of water by buds after their release from dormancy by withholding water. In non-stressed flower buds, the rate of water uptake was generally slower and variable.

Intercropping with shrub species that display a 'steady-state' flowering phenology as a strategy for biodiversity conservation in tropical agroecosystems.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Animal species in the Neotropics have evolved under a lower spatiotemporal patchiness of food resources compared to the other tropical regions. Although plant species with a steady-state flowering/fruiting phenology are rare, they provide predictable ...

Unexpected Dual Function of Plant YUCCA Enzymes Links Chlorophyll Catabolism to Auxin Homeostasis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
YUCCA enzymes are well known to catalyze the main step of auxin biosynthesis in plants. Here, a hitherto undescribed dual function was discovered, revealing that some YUCCAs also act in chlorophyll degradation. In vitro feedback regulation furthermore suggests a link between chlorophyll degradation and hormone homeostasis and a physiological role of ...

Transcriptome Analysis of Leaves, Flowers and Fruits Perisperm of Coffea arabica L. Reveals the Differential Expression of Genes Involved in Raffinose Biosynthesis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Coffea arabica L. is an important crop in several developing countries. Despite its economic importance, minimal transcriptome data are available for fruit tissues, especially during fruit development where several compounds related to coffee quality are

FLOWERING PERCENTAGE IN ARABICA COFFEE CROPS DEPENDS ON THE WATER DEFICIT LEVEL APPLIED DURING THE PRE-FLOWERING STAGE1 [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Caatinga, 2020
ABSTRACT Nonuniform flowering leads to uneven ripening of fruits, which impairs harvesting efficiency and the quality of the coffee. The aim of this study was to determine the water deficit level required to break flower bud dormancy of Coffea arabica and to evaluate its effects on gas exchange, photosynthetic pigment levels, coffee yield, and fruit ...

Bee interactions with wild flora around organic and conventional coffee farms in Kiambu district, central Kenya

open access: yesJournal of Pollination Ecology, 2010
Flower scarcity outside coffee flowering periods leads to a decline of pollinators' abundance and diversity possibly through death or migration. The objective of this study was to assess whether other flowering plants within and around coffee farms act ...
