Assessing Cognitive Functioning in Children With Brain Tumors: Interaction of Neighborhood Social Determinants of Health and Neurological Risk

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study investigated how neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDOH), including redlining and neurological risk, interact to influence cognitive outcomes in children treated for brain tumors (CTBT). Methods A retrospective chart review of 161 CTBT aged 5–17 was conducted.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Amyloid‐negative neuropsychological norms: Added value in the era of biomarkers and disease‐modifying therapies

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring
INTRODUCTION We previously applied generalized additive models for location, scale, and shape to derive amyloid β–negative next‐generation norms (NGN) for a comprehensive neuropsychological battery.

The Local Emergence and Global Diffusion of Research Technologies: An Exploration of Patterns of Network Formation

open access: yes, 2011
Grasping the fruits of "emerging technologies" is an objective of many government priority programs in a knowledge-based and globalizing economy. We use the publication records (in the Science Citation Index) of two emerging technologies to study the ...

Systems, interactions and macrotheory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A significant proportion of early HCI research was guided by one very clear vision: that the existing theory base in psychology and cognitive science could be developed to yield engineering tools for use in the interdisciplinary context of HCI design ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Cohort Effects in Age-Associated Cognitive Trajectories [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, 2013
The age-specific prevalence and incidence of dementia and cognitive impairment in the United States have either remained stable or even slightly declined during the 1980s-1990s. A suggested but untested reason for this improvement in cognitive function over time is higher educational attainment among more recent cohorts. We used data from two large ...

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Developmental divergence: motor trajectories in children with fragile X syndrome with and without co-occurring autism. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) is highly prevalent in fragile X syndrome (FXS), affecting 50-70% of males. Motor impairments are a shared feature across autism and FXS that may help to better characterize autism in FXS.

Trajectories of cognitive development in toddlers with language delays [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in Developmental Disabilities, 2018
Toddlers with early language delays (LD) are at risk for developmental difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, little is known about early cognitive skill acquisition in this population. To explore heterogeneity in cognitive development in toddlers with significant LD (n = 30) or typical development (n = 61), and how this ...
