Is there any function for colicinogeny in the post-weaning diarrhoea of piglets?

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2003
Using seven experimental approaches, we attempted to solve the question of possible participation of colicinogeny and colicin-sensitivity in the pathology of the post-weaning diarrhoeic enteritis of piglets. In our research, both enterotoxic E.

Comprehensive Analysis of Bacteriocins Produced by the Hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae Species Complex

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Klebsiella pneumoniae produces several kinds of bacteriocins that have antimicrobial effects against closely related species, but few studies have comprehensively reported bacteriocin distribution among the Klebsiella population.

Pairing Colicins B and E5 with Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus To Eradicate Carbapenem- and Colistin-Resistant Strains of Escherichia coli

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
While diverse antibacterials are available in nature, each possesses their own strengths and limitations. One such antibacterial is colicins, proteinaceous toxins that are produced by strains of E. coli to subvert the growth or viability of other E. coli

Bacteriocin Occurrence and Activity in Escherichia coli Isolated from Bovines and Wastewater

open access: yesToxins, 2019
The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistant (AMR) E. coli and related Enterobacteriaceae is a serious problem necessitating new mitigation strategies and antimicrobial agents.

Reporters for Single-Cell Analysis of Colicin Ib Expression in Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Colicins are toxins that mediate interference competition in microbial ecosystems. They serve as a "common good" for the entire producer population but are synthesized by only few members which pay the costs of colicin production.

Sterilisation Of Colicine Preparations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1970
Summary Preparations of colicines A, B, D, E2, E3 and K were exposed in separate experiments to chloroform, heat, filtration, and ultraviolet light and the effects were examined quantitatively. Chloroform at a concentration of 5 per cent. (v/v) sterilised preparations of each colicine within 5 min. and there was an acceptably low degree of inactivation.

Genome‐Wide In Silico Analysis of the Type VI Secretion System (T6SS) Within the Morganella Genus

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
▪ Species‐specific T6SS patterns among Morganella genus (M. morganii and M. sibonii). ▪ Only one‐third of M. morganii isolates haboured a T6SS. ▪ All M. sibonii possess four T6SS clusters. ▪ M. sibonii exhibited a wide diversity of effectors compared to M. morganii.

Genomic Map of Escherichia coli and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Markers in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study identified colorectal cancer‐associated SNPs in Escherichia coli using PacBio full‐genome sequencing, establishing a highly accurate SNP‐based model for non‐invasive colorectal cancer risk prediction. ABSTRACT Gut microbial single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) offer stable, specific genetic markers for disease diagnosis.

The Biology of Colicin M and Its Orthologs

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2021
The misuse of antibiotics during the last decades led to the emergence of multidrug resistant pathogenic bacteria. This phenomenon constitutes a major public health issue.

Recent Advances in Egg White Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Quality

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT International trade in egg products has increased in recent decades to meet the rising demands of a global population, the food industry, and consumers. Egg white is a rich source of proteins and peptides suitable for various food applications. Processing egg whites is important in the food industry.
