Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Hierarchical Collagen Nanofiber Gels Recapitulate a Physiologically Relevant Tumor Stromal Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The collagen nanofiber (CNF) gel supports cancer cell culture, exhibiting cell morphology and cancer‐related protein expression similar to Matrigel. It offers a higher collagen concentration than commercial gels. Additionally, the CNF gel allows replication of the high elasticity of in vivo cancer tissue by controlling collagen fiber sizes, ranging ...

Characterization of collagen profile in peritoneal metastases of colorectal cancer

open access: yesScientific Reports
The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in cancer progression and response to treatment. In colorectal cancer (CRC), a collagen-rich extracellular matrix (ECM) is a well-established feature of primary tumors and liver metastases.

Nanofiber‐Supported Decellularized Matrix Membrane Creates a Biomimetic Biochemical and Biophysical Niche for Intestinal Organoid Epithelium

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A nanofiber‐supported decellularized extracellular matrix (NaDE) membrane recreates key biochemical and mechanical features of native intestinal tissue. This platform enables the formation of a more physiologically relevant intestinal epithelium, enhancing stem cell maintenance and promoting diverse cell differentiation.

The effects of extracellular matrix degradation mediated by chronic inflammation in aged skin on the structure and function of eccrine sweat glands

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology
Eccrine sweat glands (ESGs) are critical organs for human thermoregulation, yet their function progressively declines with aging. This study aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms responsible for the age-related impairment of ESG function. Through
