The Diagnostic Value of the Interstitial Biomarkers KL-6 and SP-D for the Degree of Fibrosis in Combined Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema

open access: yesPulmonary Medicine, 2012
The combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) was reported first in 1990, but it has been comparatively underestimated until recently. Although the diagnostic findings of both emphysematous and fibrotic regions are detectable by high-resolution ...

Carbocisteine Reduces Airway Mucus Obstruction and Alters Inflammatory Cell Populations in a Model of Muco‐Obstructive Lung Disease

open access: yesImmunology &Cell Biology, Volume 104, Issue 8, Page 833-844, September 2026.
Mice with a muco‐obstructive lung disease phenotype were treated with the mucoactive drug, carbocisteine, which resulted in reduced airway mucus and an alteration in the lung mononuclear cell population which was either as a direct effect of, or secondary to, improved mucus clearance.

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis update, comparing the Australasian Interstitial Lung Disease Registry to the Australian Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Registry

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, Volume 56, Issue 9, Page 1518-1527, September 2026.
Abstract Background and aims Real‐world evaluation of clinical characteristics and treatment profile of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is needed to establish areas for improvement according to evidence‐based recommendations. This study evaluated the clinical characteristics and treatment profile of patients with IPF from the ...

Management of patients with combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) was first introduced as a distinct clinical entity to describe the coexistence of any type and grade of radiological pulmonary emphysema and the idiopathic usual interstitial pneumonia CT pattern as well ...

Combined Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema Syndrome Complicated by Lung Cancer

open access: yesSouthern Clinics of Istanbul Eurasia, 2018
Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema syndrome (CPFE) is a rare disease characterized by emphysema in the upper lobes of the lung and fibrosis in the lower lobes. CPFE is an important risk factor for lung cancer (LC). Although CPFE might increase the

Early stage non–small cell lung cancer: Toward a risk‐adaptive paradigm in the era of biologic precision

open access: yesCA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, Volume 76, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Abstract The clinical landscape of early stage non–small cell lung cancer is at transformative crossroads. Driven by the widespread adoption of low‐dose computed tomography screening, the frequent detection of ground‐glass opacities, and a rising incidence among never‐smokers, the diagnostic center of gravity has shifted toward earlier, potentially ...
