Iron in Hot DA White Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present a study of the iron abundance pattern in hot hydrogen-rich (DA) white dwarfs. The study is based on new and archival far ultraviolet spectroscopy of a sample of white dwarfs in the temperature range 30,000 K < T_eff < 64,000 K.

Oncology drug-companion diagnostic combinations

open access: yesCancer Treatment and Research Communications, 2021
With the development of trastuzumab for metastatic breast cancer a new era began in cancer drug development. The drug-diagnostic codevelopment model with its clinical enrichment trial design has enabled development of target specific drugs for molecular defined subsets of patients.

A study of spectra of Cyg X-3 observed by BeppoSAX

open access: yes, 2004
We model the ~1-200 keV spectra of Cygnus X-3 observed by BeppoSAX. The continuum, modeled by Comptonization in a hybrid plasma, is modified by the strongly ionized plasma of the stellar wind of the Wolf-Rayet companion star.

Macrophage phagocytosis cracking the defect code in COPD

open access: yesBiomedical Journal, 2017
In the normal non-diseased lung, various macrophage populations maintain homeostasis and sterility by ingesting and clearing inhaled particulates, pathogens and apoptotic cells from the local environment.

Constraining mass ratio and extinction in the FU Orionis binary system with infrared integral field spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report low resolution near infrared spectroscopic observations of the eruptive star FU Orionis using the Integral Field Spectrograph Project 1640 installed at the Palomar Hale telescope. This work focuses on elucidating the nature of the faint source,

A whole-blood RNA transcript-based gene signature is associated with the development of CTLA-4 blockade-related diarrhea in patients with advanced melanoma treated with the checkpoint inhibitor tremelimumab

open access: yesJournal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, 2018
Background Anti-CTLA-4 immune checkpoint blockade is associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Grade 3–4 diarrhea/colitis is the most frequent irAE requiring treatment discontinuation.

Fundamental Parameters of Cepheids: Masses and Multiplicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Masses determined from classical Cepheids in binary systems are a primary test of both pulsation and evolutionary calculations. The first step is to determine the orbit from ground-based radial velocities.
