Complement factor H and related proteins: an expanding family of complement-regulatory proteins?

Immunology Today, 1994
Recently, several factor-H-related molecules have been identified in humans and mice, initiating new interest in this group of serum proteins. Although no complement-regulatory activity has been demonstrated yet for the human factor-H-related proteins, the immunological and structural similarities to factor H suggest overlapping functions.

The expression of complement regulatory proteins by adult human oligodendrocytes

Journal of Neuroimmunology, 1998
In multiple sclerosis, infiltrating T lymphocytes and perivascular microglia may initiate demyelinating lesions, but a role for antibody and complement in the ensuing inflammatory damage to myelin and oligodendrocytes is likely. In most tissues, ubiquitously expressed complement regulatory proteins prevent autologous destruction, protecting host cells ...

Structure-Function Relationships of the Complement Regulatory Protein, CD59

Blood Cells, Molecules, and Diseases, 1996
CD59 (membrane inhibitor of reactive lysis, protectin) is a membrane protein whose functions include the inhibition of the insertion of the ninth component of complement into the target membrane. It belongs to a superfamily of proteins including Ly-6, elapid snake venom toxins, and urokinase receptor (UPAR); the members of the superfamily have a ...

Expression of complement regulatory proteins in the developing human kidney

Pediatric Nephrology, 2000
Complement homologous restriction factor CD59 and complement receptor CD35 are typically involved in the regulation of the host defense system. Recent observations in the human fetal kidney suggest a further role for complement cell surface regulators CD35 and CD59 in kidney development and maturation.

Effect of hybrid complement regulatory proteins on xenogeneic cells

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2003
To suppress C3 fragment deposition in the classical pathway complement activation on xenogeneic membranes, decay accelerating factor (DAF) was the most effective molecule among the complement regulatory proteins (CRPs) used in the present study. C3 fragment deposition was closely related to subsequent xenogeneic cell lysis.

Expression of complement regulatory proteins in diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis

Lupus, 2000
This study assessed the expression of complement receptor 1 (CR1), decay accelerating factor (DAF) and membrane inhibitor of reactive lysis (CD59) on the erythrocytes and glomerulus of diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis (DPGN) of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients using flow cytometry and immunofluorescence techniques to elucidate their

Susceptibility of human trophoblast to killing by human complement and the role of the complement regulatory proteins.

The Journal of Immunology, 1993
Abstract The susceptibility of trophoblast to cytolysis by human complement was investigated using cells purified to over 90% from first trimester placentae. Two assay systems were employed to measure the killing of trophoblasts, an antibody-dependent complement-mediated cytolysis and the reactive lysis.
