Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

The myth of the nation-state: Theorizing society and polities in a global era [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The analysis of globalization requires attention to the social and political units that are being variously undermined, restructured or facilitated by this process.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Semantic maps and mental representation

open access: yesLinguistic Discovery, 2010
Semantic maps are usually assumed to describe a universal arrangement of different conceptual situations in a speaker's mind as determined by perceived relations of similarity between these conceptual situations. This paper provides a number of arguments

La consulta de mapas conceptuales : estudio mediante eye-tracker

open access: yesBiD: Textos Universitaris de Biblioteconomia i Documentació, 2013
Objectivo: estudiar las pautas de comportamiento de los usuarios cuando consultan mapas conceptuales, en especial se identifican las partes de los mapas donde se presta mayor atención y el orden en que el mapa es revisado.

Phase Equilibria for Quaternary Mixtures in Esterification Reaction Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This paper examines the effect of the simultaneous chemical and phase equilibrium on the conceptual design of reactive distillation processes. Esterification of acetic acid with methanol, ethanol and butanol are examined.

Event Processing through naming: Investigating event focus in two people with aphasia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Some people with aphasia may have trouble with verbs because of fundamental difficulties in processing situations in a way that maps readily onto language.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Linear lambda terms as invariants of rooted trivalent maps

open access: yes, 2016
The main aim of the article is to give a simple and conceptual account for the correspondence (originally described by Bodini, Gardy, and Jacquot) between $\alpha$-equivalence classes of closed linear lambda terms and isomorphism classes of rooted ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...
