The Correlation Confocal Microscope [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
A new type of confocal microscope is described which makes use of intensity correlations between spatially correlated beams of light. It is shown that this apparatus leads to significantly improved transverse resolution.

Chromatism and confocality in confocal microscopes [PDF]

open access: yesScanning, 1992
AbstractIn confocal microscopes, whenever a broadband light source is used, or when excitation and detection are performed at different wavelengths, for example in fluorescence, then the influence of microscope objective chromatism on the degree of confocality is very important.

Spatial Correlations and Distribution of Competence Gene Expression in Biofilms of Streptococcus mutans

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Streptococcus mutans is an important pathogen in the human oral biofilm. It expresses virulent behaviors that are linked to its genetic competence regulon, which is controlled by comX. Expression of comX is modulated by two diffusible signaling peptides,

Characterization of the far-red fluorescent probe MitoView 633 for dynamic mitochondrial membrane potential measurement

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2023
Introduction: MitoView 633, a far-red fluorescent dye, exhibits the ability to accumulate within mitochondria in a membrane potential-dependent manner, as described by the Nernst equation.

Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2012
Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a newly developed endoscopic technique that enables imaging of the mucosal layer during endoscopy at a subcellular level of resolution. The method can therefore be used for the assessment of changes in vascular architecture, connective tissue, and cellular components in the mucosa, enabling endoscopists to collect

From 2D to 3D: Promising Advances in Imaging Lung Structure

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2020
The delicate structure of murine lungs poses many challenges for acquiring high-quality images that truly represent the living lung. Here, we describe several optimized procedures for obtaining and imaging murine lung tissue.

Acquisition and annotation in high resolution in vivo digital biopsy by confocal microscopy for diagnosis in oral precancer and cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
IntroductionScanned fibre endomicroscopes are full point-scanning confocal microscopes with submicron lateral resolution with an optical slice thickness thin enough to isolate individual cell layers, allow active positioning of the optical slice in the z-

A low-cost confocal microscope for the undergraduate lab [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We demonstrate a simple and cost-efficient scanning confocal microscope setup for use in advanced instructional physics laboratories. The setup is constructed from readily available commercial products, and the implementation of a 3D-printed flexure stage allows for further cost reduction and pedagogical opportunity. Experiments exploring the thickness
