Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Adhesion between bodies is strongly influenced by surface roughness. In this note, we try to clarify how the statistical properties of the contacting surfaces affect the adhesion under the assumption of long-range adhesive interactions.

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

The 3D nature of a real un-dismantled electrical contact interface
A 3D contact analysis and modeling suite of tools are developed and introduced in this work. The "3D Contact Map" of an electrical contact interface is presented demonstrating the 3D nature of the contact.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

High-Fidelity Stress Fields in Contact Problems using Beam, Plates, and Shells Layer-Wise Models
Structural analysis often involves contact mechanics, as mechanical systems typically feature static or dynamic contact between components. Examples of contact include meshing gears, forming processes, and simulating indentation, with impact analysis of ...

Contact mechanics and friction: Role of adhesion
This paper presents an overview of the role of adhesion in various tribological phenomena. We discuss (1) adhesion and adhesive hysteresis in rough contacts, (2) adhesive contribution to dry friction, (3) properties of adhesive contacts under tangential ...
