Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

ON THE DIAGNOSTICS OF SAGITTAL OCCLUSION ANOMALIES

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica, 2015
In the known classifications, there is no terminological wording as asymmetrical sagittal occlusion of segments of dentition in lateral areas. The work complemented classification of sagittal occlusion anomalies in the lateral areas of dentition of ...

Heparin enables the reliable detection of endotoxin in human serum samples using the Limulus amebocyte lysate assay

open access: yesScientific Reports
The determination of lipopolysaccharide (endotoxin) in serum or plasma samples using Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL)-based assays is currently not sufficiently reliable in clinical diagnostics due to numerous interfering factors that strongly reduce the ...

Predicting the risk of developing drug-induced liver injury during remdesivir therapy in COVID-19 patients using machine learning

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica
Background. The antiviral drug Remdesivir has been widely used for etiotropic treatment of COVID-19. The incidence of adverse reactions during Remdesivir therapy reaches 66.2 %, the most common one being an increase in hepatic transaminases. The aim.

HSP70 governs permeability and mechanotransduction in primary human endothelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HSP70 chemical inhibition reduces endothelial cell proliferation and increases permeability, the latter supported by normal interendothelial junctional protein distribution. HSP70 also plays a role in shear stress response, a hemodynamic force naturally present in blood vessels and correlated with vessel protection.

Clinical and roentgenological aspects of diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint pathology

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica, 2013
The article presents the occurrence of temporomandibular joint pathology (20,9 %) in children of prepubertal age. It was revealed that habitual dislocation that appears on the background of asymmetric occlusion with close position of teeth in frontal and

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...
