Endogenous melatonin partial metabolic clearance as a potential endogenous marker of CYP1A2 activity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) exhibits substantial interindividual variability, necessitating appropriate phenotyping strategies for personalized pharmacotherapy. This study evaluated endogenous melatonin partial metabolic clearance (CLm(MEL)), calculated from urinary 6‐hydroxymelatonin (6‐O‐MEL) excretion and plasma melatonin (MEL) exposure, as a ...

Combined Oral Contraceptives and the Risk of Thrombosis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) remain one of the most popular reversible contraceptive methods worldwide. Still, regardless of the drug composition and duration of therapy, almost all COCs are associated with the risk of venous thrombosis. This review highlights the main pathogenetic mechanisms of thrombosis development during oral contraceptive ...

Identification of antibiotic allergies in children using prescribing patterns in the electronic medical record

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background By age three, 5%–75% of children have a documented antibiotic allergy (AL). Despite this prevalence, recognition remains low because of limited clinician knowledge and time. Our study evaluates a novel approach to identifying AL using electronic medical record (EMR) prescription patterns.

Oseltamivir drug‐disease modelling in infants with influenza virus infection

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Oseltamivir is a commonly used neuraminidase inhibitor for treatment of influenza infection, but little data exist regarding concentration‐response relationships. Methods Pharmacokinetic (PK) and viral dynamic data from an earlier NIAID Collaborative Antiviral Study Group trial in paediatric patients with influenza from 0–23 months of age
