The radial evolution of particles accelerated at corotating interaction regions (CIRs) is not fully understood, particularly the distance range over which this particle acceleration occurs and how the energy spectra are modulated by transport through the

Europa's Neutral Sodium Exosphere Is Quasi‐Stable Over Decades
Abstract Europa's sodium cloud is thought to be modified by its orbital longitude and by its plasma environment, which modulates with Jovian magnetic geometry. To explore and quantify sodium cloud variability, seven sets of Keck I/HIRES measurements are compared providing comprehensive coverage of orbital and magnetic geometry.

Cataloging Stream Interaction Regions at MAVEN: A Cross-comparative Study with STEREO-A
Stream interaction regions (SIRs) are long-lasting solar wind structures that result from stable fast solar wind interacting with preceding slow solar wind.

Interplanetary Shocks between 0.3 and 1.0 au: Helios 1 and 2 Observations
The Helios 1 (H1) and Helios 2 (H2) spacecraft measured the solar winds at a distance between ∼0.3 and 1.0 au from the Sun. With increasing heliocentric distance ( r _h ), the plasma speed is found to increase at ∼34–40 km s ^−1 au ^−1 and the density ...

The Effects of ICME Composition on the Sputtered Component of the Lunar Exosphere
Abstract Charged‐particle sputtering is a fundamental process that contributes to the generation of the Moon’s neutral exosphere. Neutral sputtering rates are dependent on the speed, flux, and composition of the incident charged‐particle populations, all of which are variable at the Moon’s orbit.

Latitudinal variation of solar wind corotating stream interaction regions: Ulysses
Ulysses‧ initial transit to high heliographic latitudes at a heliocentric distance of ∼5 AU has revealed systematic effects in the latitudinal evolution of corotating interaction regions (CIRs). At a latitude corresponding roughly to, but slightly less than, the inferred tilt of the coronal streamer belt and embedded heliospheric current sheet, the ...

Finding Novel Precursors for Solar Wind Stream Interaction Regions With Interpretable Deep Learning
Abstract Solar wind stream interaction regions (SIRs) drive recurrent geomagnetic storms, yet most existing catalogs rely on expert inspection and simple thresholds that are subjective and can miss events with complex morphologies. We present SIREN (SIR Encoder Network), a lightweight Transformer‐based model for per‐timestep SIR detection from in situ ...

Relativistic-electron dropouts and recovery: A superposed epoch study of the magnetosphere and the solar wind [PDF]
During 124 high-speed-stream-driven storms from two solar cycles, a multispacecraft average of the 1.1–1.5 MeV electron flux measured at geosynchronous orbit is examined to study global dropouts of the flux. Solar wind and magnetospheric measurements are

Abstract It is now well understood that a small difference in the density (Δρ) $({\Delta }\rho )$ of two rivers can cause density‐driven streamwise vortices (SOVs) to form and their mixing interface to tilt downstream of their confluence. However, much less knowledge exists pertaining to how these processes are affected by other key confluence ...
