Laryngeal Dysfunction in Cough Hypersensitivity Syndrome: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: in Practice, 2018
Chronic refractory cough (CRC), a phenotype of cough hypersensitivity syndrome (CHS), is a disabling problem. Laryngeal dysfunction may be important in CRC and CHS because laryngeal symptoms are common; however, the role of laryngeal dysfunction in CHS has not been systematically examined. To determine the nature of laryngeal dysfunction in patients ...

Prevalence of Arnold Nerve Reflex in Subjects With and Without Chronic Cough: Relevance to Cough Hypersensitivity Syndrome

Pulmonary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 2019
Cough is induced by stimulation of structures innervated by the vagus nerve, including the upper and lower airways and distal esophagus. The Arnold nerve reflex describes cough resulting from stimulation of the external auditory canal, which is innervated by the auricular branch of the vagus.

Hypersensitive Carotid Sinus Syndrome Manifested as Cough Syncope

Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 1980
We describe a patient with cough syncope who was found to have carotid sinus hypersensitivity with mixed cardioinhibitory and vasodepressor responses. Symptoms were ameliorated by denervation of the more hypersensitive carotid sinus. Spontaneous atypical Wenckebach cycles in this patient were caused by the combined hypersensitive cardioinhibitory and ...

The Cough Hypersensitivity Syndrome: A Novel Paradigm for Understanding Cough

Lung, 2009
For many years patients with chronic cough have been investigated in an attempt to diagnose the cause of the cough. NMDA and GABA receptors as potential targets in cough hypersensitivity syndrome

Current Opinion in Pharmacology, 2015
Chronic cough is a common symptom that can be difficult to treat. It is proposed to be part of a cough hypersensitivity syndrome characterised by troublesome coughing often triggered by low levels of thermal, mechanical or chemical exposure. Upper airway and laryngeal neural dysfunction may also be present.
