Wise Blood: The Principle of Overcoming in Disease and Immunity (Part 1) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The immune system is an intelligently made system designed for interaction with microbes even in a perfect world; it is more than a defense. However, in a post-fall world, it is primarily a body’s defense system.

Comparative biochemical and functional analysis of viral and human secreted tumor necrosis factor (TNF) decoy receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
© 2015 by The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc. The blockade of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) by etanercept, a soluble version of the human TNF receptor 2 (hTNFR2), is a well established strategy to inhibit adverse TNF-mediated ...

Inhibition of cowpox virus and monkeypox virus infection by mitoxantrone [PDF]

open access: yesAntiviral Research, 2012
Mitoxantrone, an FDA-approved therapeutic for the treatment of cancer and multiple sclerosis, was previously reported to exhibit antiviral activity against vaccinia virus. To determine whether this activity extends to other orthopoxviruses, mitoxantrone was tested against cowpox and monkeypox.

Exceptional Clinical Resistance and Variable Reservoir Competence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cowpox virus (CPXV) is a zoonotic virus and endemic in wild rodent populations in Eurasia. Serological surveys in Europe have reported high prevalence in different vole and mouse species.

Acute Late-Stage Myocarditis in the Crab-Eating Macaque Model of Hemorrhagic Smallpox

open access: yesViruses, 2021
Hemorrhagic smallpox, caused by variola virus (VARV), was a rare but nearly 100% lethal human disease manifestation. Hemorrhagic smallpox is frequently characterized by secondary bacterial infection, coagulopathy, and myocardial and subendocardial ...

Poxvirus-encoded TNF decoy receptors inhibit the biological activity of transmembrane TNF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
© 2015 The Authors. Poxviruses encode up to four different soluble TNF receptors, named cytokine response modifier B (CrmB), CrmC, CrmD and CrmE. These proteins mimic the extracellular domain of the cellular TNF receptors to bind and inhibit the activity

Necrotic Ulcerated Lesion in a Young Boy Caused by Cowpox Virus Infection

open access: yesCase Reports in Dermatology, 2011
The case presented here points towards the fact that skin lesion observed with a cowpox virus is a rare event but should be considered more as the number of cases has increased in the last years. Cowpox virus (CPXV) belongs to the Poxviridae family.

Genome signatures, self-organizing maps and higher order phylogenies: a parametric analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Genome signatures are data vectors derived from the compositional statistics of DNA. The self-organizing map (SOM) is a neural network method for the conceptualisation of relationships within complex data, such as genome signatures.

Crystal structure of the cowpox virus-encoded NKG2D ligand OMCP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The NKG2D receptor is expressed on the surface of NK, T, and macrophage lineage cells and plays an important role in antiviral and antitumor immunity.

Safety and Efficacy of Adoptive Transfer of Stem Cell Memory Enriched Virus Specific T Cells against CMV and EBV

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study finds that CD8⁺ TSCM cells exhibit superior self‐renewal, differentiation, and antiviral activity. Transcriptome and epigenome analyses highlight MAPK cascade regulation in TSCM cells. In vivo, virus‐specific TSCM cells show enhanced persistence and tumor protection.
