Molecular epidemiology of a coxsackievirus B3 outbreak

Journal of Medical Virology, 1991
AbstractAn outbreak of coxsackievirus B3 infection occurred in South Africa in 1984 with a variety of clinical manifestations being observed. Fifty‐one isolates from patients ranging in age from young babies to middle‐aged adults were obtained. To define further the epidemiology of this outbreak all isolates were characterised by either 1‐ or 2 ...

Perinatal Transmission of Coxsackievirus B3 in Mice

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1987
Oral infection of pregnant mice with coxsackievirus B3 (CB3) late in gestation produced maternal viremia, which peaked three to four days after challenge, then rapidly diminished. Ninety percent of mice developed IgG antibody to CB3 by ten days after challenge.

Generation of a microRNA-Regulated Oncolytic Coxsackievirus B3

2022
The members of the picornavirus family include various viruses which, due to their impressive oncolytic activity, have the potential to be used for the treatment of cancer. However, the replication of these oncolytic viruses (OV) is not limited to tumor cells but can also take place in various normal tissues.

Colchicine aggravates coxsackievirus B3 infection in mice

International Journal of Cardiology, 2016
There is a clinical need for immunosuppressive therapy that can treat myocarditis patients in the presence of an active viral infection. In this study we therefore investigated the effects of colchicine, an immunosuppressive drug which has been used successfully as treatment for pericarditis patients, in a mouse model of coxsackievirus B3(CVB3)-induced

Genomic regions of coxsackievirus B3 associated with cardiovirulence

Journal of Medical Virology, 1997
The molecular basis for cardiovirulence in the coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) genome was examined in a murine model of acute myocarditis. Infectious cDNAs representing a highly cardiovirulent coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3m) and a noncardiovirulent (CVB30) virus were used to construct infectious chimeric cDNAs.

Coxsackievirus B3 modulates cardiac ion channels

The FASEB Journal, 2013
Infections with coxsackieviruses of type B (CVBs), which are known to induce severe forms of acute and chronic myocarditis, are often accompanied by ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. The mechanisms underlying the development of virus‐induced, life‐threatening arrhythmias, which are pheno‐typically similar to those ...

Host Immune Responses to Coxsackievirus B3

2008
Group B coxsackieviruses are members of the picornavirus family of small nonenveloped RNA viruses and have been associated with diseases of multiple organs including the heart, acinar and islet pancreas, liver, skeletal muscle, central nervous system, and testes. Damage to tissues occurs not only from the direct virus replication and infection of cells,

Cardiomyocyte apoptosis in experimental coxsackievirus B3 myocarditis

Cardiovascular Pathology, 2003
Viruses are known to induce apoptosis in their host cells. We studied whether cardiomyocyte apoptosis occurs upon coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection and whether virus-associated apoptosis plays a role in the pathogenesis of experimental myocarditis.BALB/c mice were infected with two variants of CVB3 causing either mild or severe myocarditis. Myocardial

Coxsackievirus B3 clinical isolates and murine myocarditis

Virus Research, 1996
Fifteen clinical coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) isolates were assessed for cardiopathologic capabilities in adolescent male CD-1 mice in comparison to two well characterized cardiovirulent CVB3 strains. One isolate was cardiovirulent, one minimally cardiovirulent and the remaining 13 isolates were noncardiovirulent.

Intracardiac thrombus in murine coxsackievirus B3 myocarditis

Heart and Vessels, 1992
We studied the appearance of intracardiac mural thrombi with time and the relationship between thrombosis and congestive heart failure (CHF) in murine coxsackievirus B3 (CB3) myocarditis. Four- to six-week-old C3H/He mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with CB3 and were observed for 90 days.
