DNA methylation determines nucleosome occupancy in the 5′-CpG islands of tumor suppressor genes
Promoter CpG island hypermethylation of tumor suppressor genes is an epigenetic hallmark of human cancer commonly associated with nucleosome occupancy and the transcriptional silencing of the neighboring gene. Nucleosomes can determine the underlying DNA

Diversity of core promoter elements comprising human bidirectional promoters
Background Bidirectional promoters lie between adjacent genes, which are transcribed from opposite strands of DNA. The functional mechanisms underlying the activation of bidirectional promoters are currently uncharacterised.

Computing the likelihood of sequence segmentation under Markov modelling [PDF]
I tackle the problem of partitioning a sequence into homogeneous segments, where homogeneity is defined by a set of Markov models. The problem is to study the likelihood that a sequence is divided into a given number of segments. Here, the moments of this likelihood are computed through an efficient algorithm.

The heterogeneous collection of nucleosome remodelling and deacetylation (NuRD) complexes can be grouped into the MBD2- or MBD3-containing complexes MBD2–NuRD and MBD3–NuRD.

ABSTRACT Background The detection rate of oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPVs) in sinonasal squamous cell carcinomas (SNSCCs) varies among studies. The mutational landscape of SNSCCs remains poorly investigated. Methods We investigated the prevalence and prognostic significance of HPV infections based on p16 protein expression, HPV‐DNA detection ...

An annotated list of bivalent chromatin regions in human ES cells: a new tool for cancer epigenetic research [PDF]
CpG islands (CGI) marked by bivalent chromatin in stem cells are believed to be more prone to aberrant DNA methylation in tumor cells. The robustness and genome-wide extent of this instructive program in different cancer types remain to be determined.

Orphan CpG Islands Identify Numerous Conserved Promoters in the Mammalian Genome
CpG islands (CGIs) are vertebrate genomic landmarks that encompass the promoters of most genes and often lack DNA methylation. Querying their apparent importance, the number of CGIs is reported to vary widely in different species and many do not co ...

A hitchhiker's guide to single‐cell epigenomics: Methods and applications for cancer research
Abstract Genetic mutations are well known to influence tumorigenesis, tumor progression, treatment response and relapse, but the role of epigenetic variation in cancer progression is still largely unexplored. The lack of epigenetic understanding in cancer evolution is in part due to the limited availability of methods to examine such a heterogeneous ...

Next Generation Epigenetic Detection Technique:Identifying Methylated DNA using Graphene Nanopore [PDF]
DNA methylation plays a pivotal role in the genetic evolution of both embryonic and adult cells. For adult somatic cells, location and dynamics of methylation has been very precisely pinned down with the 5-cytosine markers on cytosinephosphate- guanine (CpG) units.
